I have a Cel 366 (to 458 more than likely when I set it up), Asus P2-99 mb, 64 meg ram system.

I have about $200 (Canadian) to spend on a vid card, I want to upgrade soon so I can play some good 3d games over the summer.

I've read a lot about TNT2 vs Voodoo3, and seen screenshots comparing the 2, and , although there is a clear difference between 16/22 bit and 32 bit true colour rendering, but I doubt one would be able to see it that much when the game is moving fast, not on a still screen http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The TNT2 32 meg are about 60-80 bucks more over here than the 16 meg, and I just have to find a 16 meg version.. hopefully.

Is the TNT2 16 meg worth it? Would the extra 16 megs really only come into play with really high resolutions + big texture sizes + 32 bit colour? I'm stuck on 1024x724 res (my monitor) for now anyway (though the monitor supports 32 bit colour.)

Or should I go with the Voodoo3...

The only 16 meg version that I've saw over here are Maxi Gamer (though I might be able to find the OEM Viper 770).. are they good cards? Does Guillemont (sp) have good drivers and updates?

Thoughts/Suggestions welcome,

I just a superfly 900mhz, 128 mb sdram, 20ghz, 17" monitor, tower case, 32mb riva tnt2 video card, computer. given the fact it is 900mhz it probably doesn't need a video card but on my other comp. i had voodoo3 and i wasn't that impressed because it kept given me so much *Deleted* problems. But, on my new comp. i have had 0 problems and every game i throw at it works just fine. By the way if you want to find a super fast comp. for just a little over a thousand go to msccomputer.com or look in the newspaper or something. They have anywhere from diamond to voodoo card, 200mhz to 1ghz!, 17" to 22"!, and they have amd athlons too. I hope my reply has been usefull good luck. By the way a tnt2 is about 60 to 80 bucks so i think with the added price you can fit it into your budget.

It still needs a 3D vid. card to run any games properly, even if it's a 1Ghz Processor. It won't run faster than a reasonable processor + 3d vid. card.

Personally i'd go for a Leadtek WinFast GeForce 256 DDR Revision B its about another $30 on your 200 but is reackoned to be on of the best and has amazing overclocking potential (due to the blo*dy great heat sink on it!!)
have a look here (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1185) at the review! and see what you think!

Also I think this will have a longer lasting life in your machine than a V3 (also note I have a V3 2000 and am not that impressed with performance!)

It would be bad enough if you guys were replying to a post that was on June 6, 2000, but he posted on June 6, 1999. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
