Regarding the aforementioned vid card, what BIOS settings are most critical for it to run optimally? Who'd thought with such a card I'd encounter multi-media stuttering.
Stuff: Gigabyte GA-5AA with AMD K6-500 and 128mb mem.
Except for most gaming (designed for 3Dfx), my previous weaker card did better with .avi and .wav files and streaming Web media.
Also, and suggestions as to good BIOS resources (sites, books)? These darn mfg. sites and manuals provide little to no help.
Thanks - Joe
I've got the exact same problem.
However, I noticed my media stutter before I put in my Voodoo3 3000. Previously, I had a 4MB Graphics Blaster Exxtreme a la 1997 vintage. I figured the Voodoo 3 would correct the problem. NOPE!
In fact, I don't think it is a video related problem at all. I think it is a read/transfer problem from my hard drive and/or cd-rom. I think the culprit is the lack of real L2 cache. Everything has to be read from a source and then sent to the processor(s) be it your computer's processor or the video card processor.
I'm running a K6-2 400 with no real on board cache as opposed to a K6-3. In addition, my mobo is very old with no on board cache. Most old boards contain at least 256k on board cache. Not my old Packard Bell.
I may be wrong in my analysis. However, my games play great and the new video card has improved performance. However, the media cutscenes stutter.

Thanks for the feedback sbox - I'll check that. Funny I also had a Graphics Blaster Exxtreme (but on a FIC PA-2007) and the only thing lacking was gaming. Now have have an AGP board with the VD3000 and have basically the opposite problem.

Proper BIOS Settings for V3
Video Shawdow: Disable
Video Cache: Disable
Assign Vid IRQ: Enable
Sbox, your also correct about your problem. The lack of any L2 cache is a very limiting factor, as no L2 can severely limit memory throughput, thus brining your games to a crawl (or stutter in your case).
Also, I would recommend upgrading to the latest 3dfx drivers (non-beta): www.3dfx.com (http://www.3dfx.com)
