I simply dont think so.
The Radeon has 2 pipelines w/ 3 textures per pipe, but the GTS has 4 pipelines w/ 2 textures per pipe.
The Pixel/sec of the GTS would be double that of the Radeon, and the Texel fill rate would be 33% higher at the same clock speed.
And I'm not sure if the Radeon will go with DDR, but if it doesnt, its going to have serious problems even touching the GTS as far as speed is concerned.

Thats just pencil and paper tho, it may be different in real apps.

Radeon cards will be offered with 200MHz DDR Ram... similar as the Gainward GTS/400 cards....

from the reviews I read, the Radeon should cream the GTS... but even if it doesn't, at a debuting price of $220 for the 32megs DDR, can't beat that....

how much was the GTS 32 at first? hmm yeah $350 that's right.....

a month after it's release, the Radeon 32 should be around $180 ... not bad for a card that should have GTS-like performance, if not better

Yea, He's right. The cheapest GTSII is a Full retail Leadtek at $245 and the VooDoo 5500 is even mere than that, around $300+

AuraEdge mentioned the 2*3 vs. 4*2 aspect, and I think that's very important.

However, correct me if I'm wrong...it won't take such a big hit with FSAA enabled right? I don't know why exactly I think that...and I'm probably wrong.

It also has higher mem bandwidth.

Anyhow...FiringSquad is suppose to have a hands on preveiw up on monday.

Radeon is too late. Like the Rage 128. Radeon shouyld be out now if they want to get anywhere, but Nvidia and 3dfx will have their next products by the time the Radeon finally comes out.

Also, if you get one, you should feel confident in their driver developers. New driver released pale in comparison to Nvidia. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't mind that ATi plans on multi-chip solution (ala V5 5500) because ONE Radeon chip is an excellent performer... one VSA-100 isn't too hot... neither was onr Rage Fury 128 (Rage Fury MAXX) ... building on new technology is the way to go.... WAY TO GO ATi !!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

The benchmakrs sure didnt seem to impressive, even with 10 fps more its still low at 1600*1200*32

The Radeon looks like quite the card, from the reviews.
Drivers would be the biggest scare right now..If it has good drivers, It'll be able to fight it out with the GTS. Im usually not a big fan of 32bit color, but with the Radeon, you a insignificant amount of frames. Thats the only part that really impressed me about this card..that and that fact that it has EMBM, which Ive always liked. W/ good drivers, this thing could rock. I said the same thing about the Viper II...

I think the Radeon is looking like a real contender. If ATI can get the drivers working correctly it'll really perform. Based on what I've seen so far, I'm considering buying one.

Well, the results are in (on pre-production hardwear and drivers) Looks like if eye candy is your thing, Radeon is the card. Nearly 10 fps fast than GTS in 1600x1200x32 HQ Quake3 (with P3-750E).

I'm very dissapointed by nearly every other test however. Too bad the Radeon MAX will cost an arm and a leg.

Hmm, I guess if you concider the ATi plan of building multi chip soulutions...it could be fair to say that compareing the GTS and the Radeon is like compareing the GTS the the Voodoo 4. Only if you want to give ATi a break though. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

edit:
opps, I said "pre-production"...apparently these cards are being shipped right now.

The radeon looks very promising. I have seen some specs comparing it to geforce2 and vodoo5 while running quake 3 and it beats them in all respects. By the way it looks like 64mb card that will retail for almost 390 is 290 at egghead. I dont know if this is a pricing mistake or they lowered the retail, but it seems like a good deal to me.

If graphics cards keep getting better at this rate, most people will be having their processor as the bottleneck :p

absolutely right Missing the Point...

I'm starting to think that my Athlon 750MHz won't be enough to power these cards to their max... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
