Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Anyone successfully install a video card onto a mobo with integrated video?

Right now, I got two Voodoo 2's in SLI, which just complement the existing video card (the integrated one for me), not replace it.
Thing is, I wanna get a new video card so I need to disable the intergrated video.
I haven't had any luck doing it, though. There are two jumpers on my mobo that deal with VGA ... I've tried combinations of all.
I just wanna know if anyone has done it before ... like is there some kind of technique like putting in the new video card without disabling the integrated video (ie a dual monitor setup) and then disabling after I get the new video card to work.
Any suggestions?

Sure--I've done it lots of times.

My motherboard auto-detects when a video card has been inserted and disables the onboard video automatically. If yours doesn't do this, you'll need to shut it off manually.

This can usually be done from two places--the motherboard and the BIOS. If changing your jumpers isn't working, go into your BIOS and look for a 'Disable onboard video' option. You may need to have both the jumpers and the BIOS option set correctly for this to function.

You also may need to remove your old video drivers before your new card will function properly. To do this, boot Windows in Safe Mode and remove your old drivers--then reboot.

In the BIOS, I only have the option to set the Intergated video to either 2MB or 4MB; no disable option.
On the mobo, there are two jumpers:
(1) VGA SEL: 1-2 DISABLE INTERNAL VGA
2-3 ENABLE
(2) INT SEL: 1-2 DISABLE VGA INTA
2-3 ENABLE
I'm sure I have to turn off the first, not so sure about the second one. But I tried all combinations of both but none work.
When I put in the video card (and hook up the monitor to it) and disable the jumpers, nothing shows up on the monitor ... is that still a Windows issue? I mean nothing shows up, not even the "HP Pavilion" screen or the memory check or the DOS-like stuff. But it seems the computer is booting up like normal ... it's just that nothing shows up on the monitor.

go into bios and look for video then see if you can change agp to pci . Thats what worked for me. try it

That's definitely a video card issue, not windows. Switch your display to PCI and disable both VGA options onboard--see if that does the trick.

try putting in that vid card, then boot to windows. If it freezes, then go to safe mode, and disable the hardware profile of the onboard vid card. You can also do that while you are using the other vid card (onboard), then when you shut down, install the new vid card. That is what I did with my PC Chips M598LMR. Onboard stuff SUCKS.

I don't have an AGP slot, actually.
Is the hardware profile of the onboard video the one under "Display Adapters"? I have "Sis 5597/5598" under it. The hardware profiles for the Voodoo II's are under "Sound Video and Game Controllers".
Anyway, is it safe for me to assume that since the there are these jumpers on the mobo, then I can put in a new video card? I mean, they wouldn't put it there for nothing right?

yes, that is the onboard vid i have. It is an AGP, but it's onboard, there is NO slot for AGP whatsoever. Just try disabling it from the device manager.
