What is the best software to get and install if I want to:
1. Play MP3 files
2. Record MP3 files to CD-Audio Disks
3. Convert CD-Audio Disks to MP3
I am very new to the MP3's and want to learn more.
Thanks.

1. Winamp, but it's down to personal taste.
2. Don't know, don't do that.
3. CDex, find it at http://www.surf.to/cdex , it's fast and freeware, thats why I use it.
Also, you might want the Fraunhofer codec, it can be found using any decent search engine. Don't post a link to it here though as I will get in trouble, but maybe www.yahoo.com (http://www.yahoo.com) would be a good place to start looking http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif.
If you are making your own MP3's, I'd suggest using 160kbit sampling as it offers the best sound quality to file size ratio, in my opinion.

For making and playing MP3s in 160kbit sampling, try Music Match Jukebox 5. I think it's better than Winamp simply because it has a better interface (easy to see). It also has many more features. What made Winamp popular is the amount of skins you can get for it. But it does come down to personal opinion.

1.Soritong,it has a much better sound quality then winamp, and a built in equalizer,it does use a little bit more CPU power though,if you have a 266 or higher I would not worry about it........I think winamp sounds like ****......soritong sounds beautiful.......get it here http://www.sorinara.com/ it looks sweet to,and they have some really nice skins on thier page for it......I deleted wincrap and never looked back after trying soritong out..see for yourself and decide.
2.I use audiocatylst.
3.I am not to sure about mp3 to cda.

What also made winamp popular is it had the lowest CPU utilization of any windows mp3 player. That's a big reason why I don't use sonique regularly (although it has some GORGEOUS visualization).
I myself love AudioCatalyst for mp3 creation - it's so totally easy to do and wicked fast. VBR-high quality all the way http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

1. Muscmatch Jukebox.
2. Muscmatch Jukebox.
3. Muscmatch Jukebox.
(not saying it is the best for each, but it is most definately the best if you want one program to do it all!!)
Music match Juke box 5 records Cd's to Mp3(no ripping to wave & then converting to mp3). It has a wonderful music library setup(i.e. the Jukebox). It now includes CD burning software & will burn your mp3 tracks as mp3 tracks or as standard redbook audio cd files...i.e. standard music cd's. You do not have to convert to wave files first. In fact, it is a 2 button procedure to get from your music library to burning a cd mix for the car.
I have audiograbber, winamp & others, but the only software I now use is Musicmatch.
It is not free but it is cheap.
look here http://www.musicmatch.com
Actually it is free except you have to pay to record mp3's with cd quality (128)
