I'm looking for an HP scanner and see that some are USB and some are SCSI. Does anyone know which is better (faster) to use. Anyone recommend an HP printer. Not looking to send more than $300.
Thank You

The USB is a nice simple play in, install driver, and get to use product. The badwidth that current USB stadards set it fast enough to support image scanning without any issues. To properly support USB, make sure you area running Win95 OSR 2.1 or later (including win98 and win2k). Also, certain motherboard chipsets (i.e. VIA)require a special USB driver inorder for USB operations to properly function. The driver is easy to install, so mothing major. If you running an Intel setup, then everything you need should already be in place, so no extra's needed. MadMatt 03-20-2000, 09:16 AM I agree. Mine goes as fast as the scanner can move the lightbar. The USB is plenty fast enough for even large 32 bit scans to come through quickly. Check out the Microtek Scanmaker X6 USB - good scanner for around $100 and it comes with a transparency adapter. Idnew 03-20-2000, 09:30 AM I have the HP scanner with USB. I like it not being connected to the printer and it's fast enough for me. If you are running Win98 then you might have probs getting it to recognize it, but that's pretty easy to solve. Just make sure you have USB enabled in your BIOS for one thing. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Brangwen 03-20-2000, 05:53 PM I have two USB interface scanners: an HP and my faithful Visioneer Paperport 3100USB. No problems, hookup is a sinch, no conflicts, etc. Go USB. Some computer component problems are fun spending weeks, months and even years to solve, but keep at least one component easy! Good luck!
