Well, this will teach me to get all full of myself.

You may remember my recent post about getting a motherboard that I thought was dead working. If not, here it is. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/004935.html

Well, after I did that I was feeling pretty good, so I went to remove the case from my PII-350, just out of curiosity and to put some thermal paste on the cache chips. I finished this and put the processor back in the new computer, turned it on and nothing... No beeps, no POST, nothing. I then pulled the processor out of the new computer and put it in the Gateway motherboard that it had just been working in and nothing happened there either. Okay, great, I killed the processor. So I went out and bought a Celeron 466 and Slot 1 adapter from a local shop came home, put in the the new computer, nothing, put it in the old motherboard and it worked fine. Tried the P2 in the old MB again and still nothing. Well, my new MB was still under warranty, so I took it back to the shop I bought it from and they replaced it with a different model since they were out of my old/new one. Got it home, put everything back together, turned it on, nothing... Didn't have the CPU pushed in all the way. Fixed that and tried it, everything's fine. On a whim I put the P2 in and it worked fine. One problem. I can't return the Celeron 466 I just bought, only exchange it. But that's okay, now I have a spare processor and MB in case I screw up again. And the Celeron overclocked much higher than the P2. After all this, then I had the joy of formatting and reinstalling everything. Scratch one weekend.
