Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Is there a way to resize a W2K partition?
I have a 12 gig NTFS partition I want to resize to about 4 gigs. Partition magic says it cans resize ntfs, but doesn't say it works under W2K. Does anyone have any experience with this? What about ghost, can you copy from a 12 gig partition that only has 4 gigs on it to a 4 gig hd?

I'd be interested in any possibilities as well. As it is, I'm going to have to install my drives in a non Win2k system if I want to resize or copy partitions, which is doable but sucks.

Don't know if you are using w2k professional, if you are, there is disk administrator that lets you partition your drive as long it is not drive c or drive with system files on it.
You have to hunt a little bit on win2k pro to find disk administrator but it is there, like winnt4

Partition Magic 5 Pro will resize Non-2000 NTFS partitions. It does resize and create NTFS partitions just not those with windows 2000 on it. If you have win98/95 on the same machine that 2000 is on you can run PM5 from there. There is supposed to be a pacth coming out for PM5 to fix this. Send them an email and see.
You could use disk managment to resize the 12gig patition you have. I think you will have to convert your drive to a dynamic drive to do it though. I have never tried this but I remeber reading someone else doing this. I think it was BBA, if not sorry BBA.
Just read about it here. http://windows.microsoft.com/windows2000/en/professional/help/ YOu will have to select index and do a search for partition to find it as I can not copy the exact page.
Powerquest says Partition Magic 4.01 will resize win2000 partitions.

I have tried and it does not work under DOS either. Have you been able to resize a W2K partition this way? Now PM5 will delete a W2K partiton but not resize it.
Mntsnow please do let us know when you find out.TIA

Probably the easyest thing to do is just use the PM5 boot disks. These boot disks can do everything the windows one can, and it even looks exactly the same. PM5 can deal with Win2K NTFS partitions, it just can't run under it!!!
