think of the menu I'm having? This is for a girl I met some time ago, do you think this will impress her? There will be of course more people there (6) put my aim is to impress only her.

Do you have any ideas about wine that I should have with this? I'm good in cooking but my choise of wine is not my strong site though, what I need is both Red and white wine any ideas.

The menu:

Starter:
Hot smoked Monkfish Takaki on mangoketchup

Main course:
Grilled lamb fillet with brased vegetables and red wine reduction

Dessert:
Tiramisu

socalgal, Susan? Where are you? This is your responsibility! :-)

All I can say is: I've not had too much success impressing women with wine http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. But with your cooking (on paper that is...) I don't think that should matter. Also you forgot to give us the essential information: What kind of a girl is this? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

Glytzhkof, I could maybe post the recipe here for this menu, I just have to translate it over to English http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

But are you folks ready to cook this, it does take some time to do this, specially if you are going to have a smoked Monkfish
what you would need is a Wok pan and "wood" to do the smoking it is a special wood, I will have to look it up the name of the wood as I only know the name in my own languages.

The grilled lamb is easy as you have 2 ways of doing that either use a grill pan or a outside grill. I prefer to grill it on a outside grill as it gives a better taste to the meet, you will just have it on the grill for about 2 min. each site and then finish it in the oven for about 6-10 min. (180c). Depends on the thickness of the meet and you don't want to over cook it, it has to be light red inside.

The sauce well, that is not so difficult either, you will need bouillon(home made) and red win, doesn't really matter what kind of red wine it is as you only need it for the taste of the sauce, boil that for about 1-11/2 hour.

But anyway I don't have the time to post this now but if you want to I can do it, no problem just ask http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

RUN to the library and check out "Emily Post's" book on manners if ya want to really impress her.. The ladies are big on formal stuff and when and how you introduce them to your friends and family members.. also make sure you don't get the least bit tipsy cuz this may lead to vocal leaks or mistakes.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif have fun, DrVette

Sounds delicious!

Just make sure it's

quick
easy
hard to screw up
everyone likes fish (especially your target!)

Remember, the less time you spend cooking, the more you can spend with your guest(s)! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I will say this....I'm not a chef by any means of the word but my wife will tell ya that she loves it when I cook just about anything for dinner and have Candle light and stawberries & cream for the desert http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif (of course I will have shipped the kids off to grandmothers http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif)

So I would have to say your female quest will love the fact that you went to the trouble of making a nice dinner and sharing it with her.

I personally dont do much with FISH but know that you'll want a fairly light bodied white wine.

A really good white is Louis Latour. It's french and fairly inexpensive. Nice Chardonay.

Tiramisu?? Home-made?

I think you'll have trouble getting rid of that girl, as well as the rest of your guests!

Hope the dinner went well... here are some pages from when I was looking for a case of wine for my husband. http://www.wine-lovers-page.com/
That page has a forum and a "food-matching engine" at http://www.wine-lovers-page.com/foodwine/ http://www.winesite.com.hk/ http://www.wineinstitute.org/
