I need a cheap video card that will work with linux (RH6.0 or 6.1) and give decent 3d (dual boot with diablo 2).

****Note 3d in Linux would be nice, but is not expected (refer to the part about cheap)

Looking for cheap solutions... This card will get rotated out to a Linux only machine later, and I will spend top dollar to get a better card for my game machine.

I am planning on getting an Asus P3V4X and a 366 Celeron. I have 64Mg RAM, HD, FD, and all the rest at home.

Thanks,
Banti

V3 is probably by far the easiest to setup in Linux for 3d and regular 2d (just download the RPMS off of linux.3dfx.com, convert them if needed, and install, voila), but I hear the G400s are a nice pick too.

Voodoo 3? I tryed installing red hat 6.1 with the V3, I couldn't get the res out of 640x480. I would go with anything by Matrox.

Linux is only screwy if you arent postive on settings. I believe XF 3.3.4 and up support V3's, although I could be mistaken, anyway, V3 is incredibly easy to setup in Linux, if you cant do it, you did it wrong.

ATI 3D Xpert 8mg PCI.

Reasonably priced - works with Linux http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I used Red Hat 6.1 and it recongnized my TNT2 perfectly, but alot of the 3D games that are ported to Linux seem to be written for the Voodoo cards. UT is a good example. In that light I would go fo the V3 2000 also.

The ATI's are very well supported in Linux, but the V3 would be a better gaming card in Windows, IMHO. When I said Linux was screwy sometimes, I meant that the setup is a lot different then windows, so maybe not the best thing to say, lol.
