Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Need VIA 4in1 drivers 4.20 - but from where?

I could really do with getting the latest VIA 4in1 driver v.4.20. The US site (www.viatech.com) doesn't seem to exist anymore and the Taiwan site (www.via.com.tw) has been desperately slow over the past few days. So slow that I can't get any downloads to work either from my home connection or work.
Is there anywhere else I could get it?

Rob G.
Please check the links below. Several sources have noted problems with the newer version (4.20), specifically memory performance. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1199&p=3 http://www7.tomshardware.com/mainboard/00q1/000306/index.html

If you run a VIA MVP4 socket7 board, the new driver will not present a problem. With some Pro133 chipsets (slot 1), then a better choice would be the 4.17 driver release, unless your sure no problems exist.
The 4.17 release is available at:

Well, my mobo is an FIC PA-2013 which uses an MVP3 chipset. I already have version 4.18 of 4in1 so perhaps I'm better off sticking with that until I can be sure 4.20 is better. That is unless you guys know that 4.20 will be better than 4.18 on my mobo.
Thanks for your help

Since you have a MVP3 based board, go ahead and install the 4.20 drivers. They really aided in system stabilty with AZZA pt-5vml (MVP3) and CL TNT-2 (150/183), plus gave me about a 2-4% increase in graphics performance.

Uhh.. after reading the comment on TweakFiles - "this is the older, hard to find, stable version..." - I think I'll give 4.17 a try.
I haven't been keeping up with this as I should have - what were the problems with versions after 4.17?

Oops, sorry there RobRich I posted my message the same time you did yours.
OK, I'll try 4.20
Thanks again!

Robrich, I'm running 4.18 on my va-503+ and viper 770. Would you recommend the 4.20? How about the included bus mastering, which I usually let Win98 handle?

I haven't seen any negative effects when using the 4.20 drivers and MVP3 based boards. As for the busmastering drivers, I commonly let Windows use the Microsoft version of the VIA ide drivers. They seem to be more stable for me, plus my cd-rom has compatilbity issues with the newer VIA ide drivers.

OK, I've tried 4.20 on a fresh Win98 and the install crashed at several points. Perhaps the download was faulty or something ( got it from the first link RobRich supplied). I've used 4.18 and it seems fine.
If I get it downloaded from somewhere else - can the 4in1 be safely deinstalled and replaced with a newer version? I know the package includes options to remove it from the system, but these kind of things never seem to be completely reliable.

As with all great things in life, if 4.18 works and 4.20 doesn't, then use 4.18. I've heard of a few compatiblity issues with the new release, but have yet to suffer any on systems I deal with.
