Yesterday I was using Trident PCI 9680 2meg today I bought a new 4meg AGP aopen 128gplus 2x
Installed it and notice a little speed increase.
It was only 25 dollar.
Now I am wondering if it is 2 times faster or 4 times faster.
My question is 4x twice as fast as 2x
1x twice as fast as PCI?

The maximum data transfer rate of a 4x is twice as fast as 2x, the maximum data transfer rate of 2x is twice that of 1x, and so on. As for how well the card performs, that is a different issue entirely, as a Voodoo3 3000 PCI would smoke an AGP TNT any day. As far as I can tell, the data transfer rate matters to some extent, but AGP 4x with fast writes is more than enough for now.

But Im not willing to pay 150+ for a VGA card. Remember we're talking price vs performance here. I need something that was cheap and perform well enought for what I do but don't want to sacrifice $$$ for something that is super fast.
That Extra Money Saved was used to buy other component such as MB, Mouse, Keyboard.
DIMM, Hard Drive. They are alway cheapest I can find. Example.
5$ mouse.
9$ keyboard.
40$ 64meg DIMM 100mhz
80$ MotherBoard
Why spend 300 dollar for 19 monitor
when you can get 15' for 100 dollar
and used that 200 toward something else.
With all these money saved you'll feel like a millionaire.

Yeah but I know how I would feel using that kind of computer... real bad... I really dont mind shelling out money for good grand component, it's much more rewarding.. You'll feel better spending a bit more and see what it can do... a lot more. Say a guy build something like this:
Celeron 500
PC100 Mainboard LMRT748 (SIS630)
10G
64MB
52X
and uses everything onboard (lan, vga, sound, modem) he'll end up having saved a lot of money but **** will he regret it. I know I sold a few pcs like this to people who just wanted to have a pc and pay the less they could.
Just change the mobo for something like p3v4x, add a sblive value oem, add a voodoo3 2000/3000 agp, and **** this computer will only cost maybe what? 200 more? But **** you'll be able to play games with it!

Yeap cheapest maybe the worst to get.
thing to avoid is onboard stuff,
they are real **** even worst then the cheapest component you can buy example
4meg-8meg AGP2x 25-35$ and it doesnt use your DIMM or require you to put in slot one.
For some of us that know so much about we feel it aint worth what it is.
80$ maybe down the drain because you going to have to replace that anyway once you found out it isnt what it claim to be. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
the ups about onboard, it really cheap.
and really crappy.
the downside, once you upgrade to new MB those onboard have to be trashed at the same time. I guess if any body want to know about onboard generic motherboard I'll tell them but if they like It because it cheap I guess it there choice they'll find out the hardway.
