Most of you probably remember me whining about my Gateway motherboard that I used to have that died on me. Well for some reason I kept it and now I'm glad I did. I got to thinking about all the stuff I've learned after building my new computer and reading this board and lo and behold what do I find on the Gateway motherboard? The jumper to reset the BIOS. Figuring it was a long shot, I set the jumper to "recover" and put the bare essentials in the case, including the Gateway power supply that I thought may have been dead. I pushed the power button and she BEEPED!!! Progress! I turned it off and put the jumper in the "configure" position and it booted into the BIOS, so I knew that wasn't toast. I set it to the defaults, shut it off and put the jumper back in the "normal" position, crossed my fingers and turned it on. It POSTed and booted! Then, "Windows Protection Error". But I was using the hard drive out of my current computer anyway. It WILL boot into Safe Mode, so I figure it's just a matter of getting a clean hard drive and all the other pieces I'll need since I used them in the new computer.

So, where can I find these things cheap?
14-15in monitor
keyboard
mouse
3.5in floppy
RAM (PC100)

I got a Celeron 366 PPGA and Slocket on EBay today, so that's taken care of.

I'm so happy I could just sh** !!!

I'll shut up now.

Way to go Jeff! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I think it's cool to have a system that you don't mind messing up, or have to worry about loosing anything important. Gives you a chance to try different things you normally would not do, or try.
