The Voodoo5, as it is now, doesn't look like it will be able to top nVidia's new GeForce2 GPU. But what if 3Dfx discovers DDR RAM and applies it to their upcoming Voodoo5 line of cards. As a showdown between the Voodoo5 and the GeForce2 would be inevidable, I would like to see the outcome of such a match.
Voodoo5 w/DDR RAM Vs. GeForce2 DDR
Which one would take the crown?

Only time will tell. Gotta get 3dfx to use DDR ram though to make it close.

Does the V5 even support DDR?
If it cost 100 bucks to get 32 of SDR SDRAM to DDR SDRAM, imagine how much it would cost to DDR a V5 6000...
400 bucks?
ouch..
I dont think Voodoos gunna touch DDR, at least not this generation.

Don't think that 3dfx will use DDR, they would be too expensive anyway. But maybe their next generation (Voodoo6???) In my opinion, even though if the Voodoo5 has the DDR RAM I think it would still have no match against the GeForce2 GTS, but the performance difference would be much closer.
Even the gf2 has a real memory bandwidth problem...even with DDR. I havn't read how the v5 overcomes this.

the result we have seen so far are using beta voodoo 5 drivers, I'm hoping that the real drivers will unlock the performance that any card with that kind of fill rate should have. If not then there must be a flaw in the board . however the results seem to point to some kind of software problem. Hence, making the V5 5500 very CPU dependent.

Even with the DDR RAM the GeForce2's got it beat. 3Dfx needs to wake up and get with the program. Both cards need higher bandwidth, hmm...
I wonder what 3Dfx is planning for the future, if they keep on the path they're on now, nVidia will have em' beat good.
