So after I disable the old video card, I have to install an VGA driver? How do I go about doing that without restarting the PC. With another card, I couldn't get into Win98 after deleting the cards old cards presence in Windows, and had to reinstall Win98 to get the new video card working. Thanks, flightsimcanada.com 04-06-2000, 12:19 AM Hi there, I'll be getting the Diamond Viper II in a day, and it will be replacing a Voodoo2. What steps should I take to install the new video card, and remove the Voodoo2 without causing system lockups or mysterious driver installations? There aren't any problems with the Vipers are there? ATI's having some problems with the Maxx' with the screen going blank on some people. Nothing like that happening I hope! BTW, how does the Viper II compare to ATI's Rage Fury Maxx 64 fps wise? Thanks! Thanks very much. Szech 04-06-2000, 12:38 AM First set your display driver to VGA. Then uninstall your old voodoo2 drivers, as well as your 2D video card drivers, if you see them under "Add/Remove Programs." Shut your computer down, turn off the power supply, then switch the cards. When your system starts up, it should detect the new card (I assume you're running 95/98). It'll ask for a driver, at which point you put in the install CD and tell it to search the CD. That will take care of everything, but you should get the latest drivers from www.diamondmm.com (http://www.diamondmm.com) . As for problems with the Viper II, I know the drivers are a tad buggy, and some games will require patches, but the card is pretty good IMO. FPS-wise, the Maxx has inconsistent rates (AFR isn't as good as they hype it to be), putting the Viper II over it. mushi 04-06-2000, 07:15 AM You should do what Szech mentioned and also get the lastest drivers for your motherboard. If you have a VIA based motherboard, you should install the 4-in-1 drivers with the AGP in non turbo mode. Also, the video card could be used as a standard VGA card, so if you remove your VooDoo 2 drivers, and stick in your Viper II, it should be detected as a standard VGA card before installing the drivers.
