Last night, one of my vendors mailed me. I didn't open it on just a odd feeling I had.. When I arrived at work today, my E-Mail there had a warning from the firewall folks saying that they had deleted an E-mail that may have had the "Pretty Park" virus.. WHEW, the machine I was using last night was JUST built and had no anti-virus of any kind.. Close one.. Sincerely,, DrVette

I don't open attachments, period. Unless I definitely know it's from someone who I *know* has enough on the ball to scan before sending, or I know what they're sending. Even then, I save to disk and run at least 2 scans. Sad, but necessary these days, IMO.
Glad you escaped the wrath, Dr.Vette. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I received it last night. I thought I knew what it was and opened it anyway. I don't use Outlook so it doesn't matter. It did nothing by the way.

Same here.
Some fellow member over @ agn.com emailed me with it. I didn't open it or execute no nothin. Just deleted it straight off.
What's with all this email virus we're gettin' all of a sudden?

People found out how to exploit Outlook and it has spread like wildfire. I think M$ should find a better way to manage email. Really sorry software. I wouldn't touch it. That is why I use Yahoo email for home instead of mindspring and use PINE email at work (Archaic- I know but it works with Yahoo doing the attachments)

I would likely do something if you opened it dave...it is a self propagating virus that will mail itself to everyone in your adress book..........here is what SYMANTEC (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/prettypark.worm.html) has to say about it.......a member of this furom was obviously inflicted with it......since he inadvertantly mailed it to me......

BTW dave,I would make sure you didnt get it..
it can be used much like a trojan in the right hands.

Yeah, I received it also from another member. I didn't open it of course, and deleted immediately. Then ran 2 AV and The Cleaner... just in case.

Apostle,
Another member was recently infected and sent a bunch out.
Oblivion-
Didn't think about the trojan capability. I don't use Outlook nor have it configured to send out mail. It couldn't if it tried. I will refrain from 'experimenting' I guess in the future. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks

does that virus work on aol. i can't download email and scan it without opening it first.
oblivion
03-16-2000, 02:15 PM
You could just do a scan of your inbox.....through explorer.........
I got it from a member as well, but I also never download unexpected exe's... What if it's received in a Hotmail account? It's only supposed to play with Outlook isn't it?

One user at work says his alerts on every "Word" message. Mine has only done it one time, TODAY.. Here's how to rid it; Repair Information
To remove the PrettyPark worm:
On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
Type REGEDIT, then click OK.
Modify the following Registry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\exefile\ shell\open\command
and change
files32.vxd "%1" %*
to
"%1" %*
For clarity, these seven characters are the following: double quote, percent sign, the numeral one, double quote, space, percent sign, and asterisk. Don't forget the space.
Delete the PrettyPark.exe file.
Restart your computer.
Delete the \Windows\System\Files32.vxd file.
Safe Computing
Because of Worms and Trojan Horse programs, you must practice safe computing. Be suspicious of executable file attachments (for example, .exe, .shs, or MS Word, or MS Excel files), especially ones from newsgroups or unknown sources. For continuous protection, always run Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect and use LiveUpdate to make sure you have the latest virus definitions.

Jad, http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif I refuse response to go subterranium into the quagmire of inepness that permeates this most holy of forums to acknowledge the illogical pervasive utterances of those whom choose to emaulate one of extreme intellectual deprvity http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif . Confronted with such a pittance of an attemt to "INFLAME" myself, I find this deleberate violation of board rules to be merely,, BORING.. Foutunately the enucations of such sub-mediocre limited neuron function activity are not audible to manifest itself upon our tempanic membrane resulting in cranial overpressurization. His only protection of impending peril is physical separation of Grey Matter from Spinal collum disallowing ordinary movement which is prudent to keep yet another Darwin Award winner from being crowned.. "I find this deleberate violation of board rules to be merely,, BORING.."

DrVette, I didn't think so. I do like the redneck version though.

http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif NP Jad, I like the redneck version also. Several years ago while undergoing a six week psycological examination at a local hospital, the neuro-psycologist thought my comment about "damaging" my spelling was unusual.. I elaborated on to say that for many years I would spell notes to my secretary in a mix of southern speech/afro-american slang. Honestly, if you spell something for years incorrectly on purpose, it will happen when you don't mean for it to.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif , I hope all agree that insults that include foul language are uncalled for. The "Crooked Attorney" is one of my personalities I'd like to keep in the closet.. like the crazy aunt. lol DrVette

Funny I used to speak afro-american slang and it has screwed me all up. Kids now think it is cool but I did it because of where I grew up.
I underwent syc/drug treatment when I was a teenager they said it would be only an hour then 72hours then 28 days then till I was 18! Then my issurance ran out and they let me go after 3.5 months. After my first son was born my mother and I talked about it and she told me the only reason they keep me so long was I keep screwing with the shrinks head. The really funny thing is before they released me they told my mother there was nothing they could do for me.
