Well, first off some background. My system is a Tyan 1854 mobo with a Celeron 500 running at 562, 128M PC133, Voodoo 3 3000 AGP just installed today at 2x AGP. The monitor is an old 15" CTX 1562. My old card was a Rage Pro PCI.
The old 3DMark 2000 benchmark was a big 1012. The new card with the bundled DirectX7 drivers does a 1580. Kinda slow, don't you think?
Then there's Quake II. Using the 3DFX OpenGL it does 82 fps@ 800x600 16bit. The Rage Pro was good for 18.5 on the same setting. Why such a wide disparity between the QII and 3DMark tests with the new card?
Then there's the QII gameplay. I'm still learning the game and it seems like the Marine character dude is still at 20 fps but all the bad guys are stuck at 80. I die within 20 seconds on easy setting. My character movement is the same as with the Rage Pro but everything else is stuck in Turbo mode. You can't even see the spacecraft fly overhead, just a super-quick blur.
AND one last thing. The monitor may be due for replacement, but BIOS screen, normal Win98 operation, and QII all put the screen in different places, like 2-3 inches out of adjustment sometimes. The refresh rate is set to "optimal".
Help, this is all driving me nuts...my slow old Rage Pro was slow but consistent.
Thanks for any tips.

Your 3dmark 2k score is low as the celery doesn't have 3dnow or sse which give you a big hike in the score. Your framerates are good as the celery has good fpu which is used by games. I used to get about 1800 in 3dmark 2k with a c400@600 so your score is about right so don't worry about it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
