Well, I need to replace my cd-rom drive and I was considering a dvd drive to go with my cd-rw. If I understand things, the newer dvd drives perform well reading cd-roms and cd-rw's, is that correct?

I was looking at Creative Labs Encore series (6x, 8x) which includes the decoder card. Any thoughts on that brand/series? Any other brand recommendations?

Since I assume that you have to pass the cable from your video card through the decoder card to your monitor, do you get any video degredation?

Am I silly for wanting to use a dvd drive as my primary cd-rom drive???

Any thoughts would be appreciated... Thanks! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Best combo there is
If you have a halfway decent machine, then chances are you dont need a decoder.
