Not sure if u need them, but I used the latest beta drivers for this.
Run the Treemark demo...take note of the FPS. (Simple mode..if u do complex it will take forever)
Get in the regestry (regedit) and then go to key HKEY_CURRENT _CONFIG -> Display -> Settings.
Then make a new String named "ICDHWTL" and set the value to "ON".
Reboot.
Viola...your own GPU http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif...Kinda
Run simple Treedemo again.
Note frames that actually make watching it smooth.
Smile.

I bought the Viper II about 3 weeks ago and I am SO disappointed. I tried the Stealth III and that was a dud, so I figured that the Viper II was going to be great. Nope.
Maybe I am totally screwing something up, but I get terrible graphics on Rogue Spear and it's slow as heck. I was having random lock ups on Unreal Tournament. Quake II would just drop out. Whaaaa!
So now I am completely frustrated. I have done a clean install (many times) of Win98 and loaded every version of the Viper II drivers that I can find. Any ideas?
(System is as follows: AMD K6-2 400 Mhz on a Diamond Micronics C200 MB, 128 pc-100 ram, Creative Labs pci sound card, Linksys network card, Maxtor 20.7 g drive, 24x cd rom, S&F 6X4X24 CDRW Large case with 250 w power supply, HD fans and additional case fan. Using thermal grease on CPU, additional fan on Viper II)
I have downloaded all the latest and greatest ALI drivers, which seemed to clear up my problems with my other system (I-Will XA-100, AMD K6-2 300, Viper V550, etc...) Is there something that I may be missing when it comes to this Viper II? Thanks for any info...

I ran a nights loop of Q2-Crusher on 1024x768x32. Ran all night (even overclocked to 142/166). 50+FPS Very sweet!
I screwed a 486 fan onto the sink, no extra grease tho.
Im using a PIII 500e@667 on a Via133A board (AGP4 was really unstable, and produced lots of artifacts, so i just left it off), and Im using the latest beta drivers.
In Q2 it runs great. In Q3A Demo it produces a good amount of visual artifacts...still working on fixing that.

Aura,
How do you like that new processor? I am thinking of getting one, just need a few more people to give me stories on how great they are. What are the rest of your components? If you have the time.

The preformance is spectacular, in Q2 its great.
However, in UT, the top line of the screen is annoyingly flashing..I dont think I can get rid of this.
Also in Q3Demo, There are MILLIONS of artifacts all over the place.
Its probably a better performer than the GeForce, but the drivers make the artifacts and weird things happen so much its rediculous.
25 Frames for TreeDemo simple tho....Gotta say thats sweet, and hit 41.3fps in 3DMarks2k 1024x768x32 on the first test.
Til better drivers come out to kill the artifacts, its not a card to recommend...but once they get rid of the artifacts, it'll be a card that will be hard to resist, judging its price point, and its performance level.
If you absolutely have to get a card now, dont get this one, cuz Diamond isnt exactly the best driver company.
Other components - P3 500e@667, 128MB SDRAM, 20.5 IBM 7200RPM ATA66, Tyan Trinity 400 (Via 133A board)..AGP 4x was too unstable to run tho.
Nothing else of the system should affect Video performance.

Good News! I went and downloaded the BETA drivers for the Viper II and setup my system. (I did the Treemark simple test and got 3.26 fps before I updated.) After the new drivers and turning on the "ICDHWTL" I got 9.22 fps. Granted, that's not as good as some others here, but the performance increase was WAY noticable! Thanks!! Even my Rogue Spear problems went away!
Thankyou!Thankyou!Thankyou!

P.S. Will someone please tell me what program I need to do some more testing? I see people mentioning Q2 timedemo or something like that, but I cannot find anything like that on my Q2 CD. (I feel like a moron sometimes!) Thanks again!!

Use Unreal Tournament. Just select timedemo from the tools menu.
AuraEdge

to do it, go to the Q2 console (~ key) and type 'timedemo 1' <enter> then 'demomap crusher.dm2' <enter>
n watch it fly!

Everything about the glitchs with Q3A I spoke about...It only happens when the ICDHWTL is on. When its off, Q3A looks great, with no percievable artifacts
Sorry for the quick shootdown.

Ohh...okay....well 500e@667
BTW somethings holding me back that It wont get to 700...
It got 700 rock solid on my other system, and strangely enough the other system is a BX system.
From process of elimination, Id have to say its either my NIC or my Viper or maybe even just something odd with the board...(Via133A board, PC133 RAM, IBM HDD, and no sound card at the moment)...so if it is the Viper, then Id have to conclude that its picky about FSB speed. (140x.5 is only 70 MHz, not that much over norm...)

What is the treemark demo???? Haven't heard of it?

Yeah.....that doesn't sound too extreme. I remember hearing somewhere that you could actually disable the AGP by setting the AGP aperature size to 4 in the bios. I'm not sure if this will work, but I think it essentially makes your AGP a PCI and possibly more receptive to overclocking. My feelings are that it is in the VIA chipset though. But I am relatively new to OC so take what you want.
I don't suppose you know of anywhere that still has those in stock....maybe even a 550.
Thanks,
Travis

I got 142FSB on my SY-6VBA, but cant shoot over 133 on this Tyan trinity 400...
I tryed the apeture thing before...down to 4...I think i tried everything.
Maybe the board just isnt as stable as my BX board
Wierd thing is I dont get a boot at 700, but I get a boot on 720, but doesnt get to windows.
Treemark is a benchmark by NVidia, that tests how your system works with a multitude of polygons, each being lighted by several firefly like creatures flying around. Transforming really helps with the multitude of polys, and The lighting...well thats pretty self explanitory. This benchmark will crush any non T&L card. This card was basically to show off the T&L engine of the GeForce.
I got 9.5 FPS w/o T&L, and 25.0 FPS w/ T&L

rames per second: 6.9541
Screen Resolution 1024x768
Pentium III 450
Viper 770 Ultra
128 megs ram
Gateway MB 440bx/zx
2.17 Det. Drivers
Added the Reg. line. ? Didn't seem to make a noticable difference? I really don't want to switch to the newest beta drivers. They seem to slow the system up. Or should I since I added this Reg. String.?

Thats because the regedit is for a Viper II. You have a Viper V770.
Travis
But wouldn't that be great?

Is it true that by setting CPU Aperature size to 4 in the BIOS basically disables AGP?
Why then did I want 4x AGP in the first place?
Is this misinformation? Does anyone know?
Will I get better results with a different setting?
Is all this just a trial and error thing or does anyone know?
How was this T&L tweek discovered?
The more questions I ask, the more I find that I do not know or understand.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

i just did the tree mark demo...
I have the newest Viper II drivers and t&l enabled.With a PII400mhz non o/c.Intel Ws440bx w/ 64mbpc100.
in win98se
simple =13.5794 fps
complex=3.7462 fps
Are these framerates for treemark acceptable for my system....? Im just curious... i just freshly formatted last night... and have a dual boot of win98se win2k.... installing gamez at the same time while running treemark and running ie5.0
and seti@home as well as Landbridge.....
I tell ya guys what... I begining to love the ViperII and q3 & UT... I was playing around with q3 with cheats enabled.....**** cool with the bfg10k.... I think s3 finally put out something id reccomend to people.

I found them at some web site...I dont remember the URL, and If I did, I would have given credit to the original. By changing the Apeture size to 4, you let it have 4MB's of RAM to be used as video memory, and no more. AGP 4x allows it to read and write to whatever RAM is allocated to be used as video memory faster. (66Mhz for AGP, 133Mhz for AGP 2x, and 266Mhz for AGP 4x)
Lowering apeture size helps the AGP bus run higher on the video card, if that ever becomes an issue.

Setting the AGP aperature size to 4meg will commonly turn of the AGP textruing option on many moetherboards, and sometimes set the AGP transfer rate to 1x. I actually discovered this link a few minutes ago, so for you guys with the Viper2, this might be something to check out:
http://www.geocities.com/savage4user/Driver.htm
He has used the latest Diamond drivers, and completely tweaked them for three different platforms:
-celeron/k6/p/pmmx
-k6-2/k6-3/Athlon 3dnow!
-P3/Coppermine SSE
Then just enable the T&L trick for OpenGL, and you should be in business. Also, s3 has a working model for T&L D3D, because DirectX 8.3 Beta has preliminary support for the Savage2000 T&L chip.

have you tried taking off some of your fans as you might be overloading your 250W PSU. If it works without them then you know you need a 300W PSU

I can not even get tree mark to run.
The program crashes each time I try to run it.
I believe I may have something that conflicts somewhere deep down in the bowels of my registry.
When I recently upgraded my machine to it's current configuration:
TYAN Trinity 400
600MHz Intel Pentium III (600B)
256 MB RAM
Diamond Viper II video
I never re-installed Windows 98SE.
My old machine was configured like:
INTEL TigerEye TE430VX
200MHz Intel Pentium
128 MB RAM
Matrox Millenium PCI
Diamond Monster 3D-II PCI (12MB)
I believe that somewhere, the old Monster 3D-II is still partly installed.
When I try to re-install the Monster card, the machine locks up or at least slows to a crawl.
Perhaps I may have to re-install Windows sometime?
Any suggestions would help.
