I have tried just about everything but I cannot seem to upgrade to newer drivers for my video card. Currently STILL stuck on the 2.08 detonator drivers due to the incompatability problems my pc seems to have with newer drivers.
system
win 98
pentium III
viper 770 ultra tnt2
EV700 (gateway) monitor
I have gone in the reg. and deleted anything to do with Nvidia,TNT,Diamond,Viper etc. Also deleted the same info in Windows/system. Loaded standard vga drivers. then loaded the latest drivers and the system goes crazy when I try any hardcore games / 3Dmark2000, 3Dmark99, and or when I hit the "Output Device" under Advanced Settings the monitor shuts down. What the heck have I done. A format of the system would be a really bad thing to do at this time. Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this problem. The 2.08 Det. drivers have taken over my pc.???? HELP.....
Thanks

Ok, so now I got fed up with the darn thing and formatted it thinking it might be a software glitch. WRONG. I downloaded the detonator 5.08 drivers and the pc goes crazy.
So, what are the best drivers out there for the Diamond Viper 770Ultra? I can't seem to get any drivers to work other than the 2.08 Detonators.

The 2.08 are the best for the TNT2.
I have a v770 (non ultra) and I've experimented with all the drivers from 1.88 to 3.77 (5.08's are the only ones I haven't messed with yet). And for best performance (speed), best visual quality, and best stability (by far) it's the 2.08's.
Most of the 3.xx seriers do work for me, just not as fast as 2.08's.

Looking for a anyone who has the 2.08 drivers. Looking to set up a clean install using the 2.08's. I can't find them now. I tried "Reactor Critical" but I don't get clean downloads from that site? Tried the 2.08 and 2.17 drivers and never received the full download cleanly? Currently using the latest drivers from Nvidia's site. Thanks.

Thanks OuTpaTienT for the link. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Do you happen to know the reg. hack for the V-sync. Option under the "Open-GL" tab?

I think adding the PowerUser option will then allow v-sync options in the menus.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NVIDIA Corporation\RIVA TNT\NVTweak]
"PowerUser"=dword:00000001

If anyone here has tried 5.08, you'll soon relaize there are two distinct sides to this driver release. The openGL rendering engine has been seriously improved in many areas, esp. in speed. My Quake2 score are higher with 5.08 than 2.08. Now for the downside, D3D. My D3D scores have suffered, and games seem choppy and unplayable with 5.08 no matter what I do. Simple dix, though. You can install the 3.77 driver set, then copt the 5.08 "nvopengl.dll" file over the 3.77 one in the windows system directory. This will give you the better D3D rendering engine, while still allowing you to experiment with the new OGL driver.
My OpenGL apps and prorgams run faster and more stable with the 5.08 driver than any release since 2.17. There are still a functionality issues, since certian games seem to suffer texture loss or misalignment with the 5.08 OGL, but it's well worth it for me, since my Quake2 scores have seen significant improvement (esp. at higher res). All of my results and experimentation with the newest drivers are with a CL TNT-2 @ 150/175.
Sweeper, I know with been through this one before, and I still do not have an answer. I know I've already recommended all the options that you've tried, so it looks like a format might be in your future. Since 2.08 is stable and working I would leave it alone for right now. The performance difference between 2.08 and 3.77 is rather negigable with a TNT-x based card. I would keep the 2.08 until it is absolutely neccesary ro upgrade them.

I ended up with the 2.08 drivers due to serious conflicts with software or hardware. Not sure which. Stablily the 2.08 drivers are a perfect match for my system. Why? I have no idea. The 2.17's are close but lose some stability. I have been trying all the drivers up to the 5.08's and just have not matched up anything. Maybe it's my system. Who knows. Thanks for all the help though. And thanks for the Reg. string. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
