Should we ban this dangerous chemical?

bihydroginatedmonoxide
It is used in industry as a universal cleaning solvent where it readily aids in the spread of toxic chemicals in the enviroment.
It causes rapid and continuing corrosion of most metals.
It contributes to unsafe conditions in industry and public transportation indirectly causing thousands of accidents each year.
Excessive amounts of this compound have proved fatal to humans, in fact hundreds of children and infants are killed by it every year.
***************************

Well, what do you say? Will you join in signing the petition to ban water?

When gasoline was becoming ever more popular as a fuel, there was intense debate in Congress over whether or not such a dangerous substance should be readily available to the public. The Congressional Record of some of those debates is hilarious.
Is there anything we come into contact with on this world/nearby that isn't at least slowly killing us?

Love Canal New York's witches brew of manmade toxins killed thousands of kids.A local brewery used Ethlyene Glycol to keep down corrosion while under construction, then dumped it into the river. A paper mill in this town dumped a few ten thousand gallons of PH 14+ slurry into the Coosa River. This slug was tracked as far south as 150 miles downstream still taking the litmus paper to the max, electronic measurements still showed 14+ PH,, the maximum we can test to... A gold mine in South Dakota used Cynanide for decades and dumped the waste into the river. Other mines leaking lead and heavy metals into the groundwater are exempted and given permits stating "site-specific" allowances, if more leaks, the allowance is raised. Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons plant in Colorado had Hi-Rad dust in the air conditioning, over one kilo. Rocky Flats has dropped enough tritium, plutonium etc to show up in Denvers water supply, not minimal trace amounts either.. Savannah River Project in South Carolina, across from Augusta Ga, has been taken away from the great and wonderful Depont Neumours Corp because of their neglient behavior(IMO).The procedure for years to dispose of low Rad waste was to bury it, on site, in cardboard.. Now animals that dig on this site are contaminated and are regularly euthanized and put into low level radioactive containment. The water aquefer for five states shows some trace elements of those used in the SRP Nuclear Weapons site. WAIT, Remember!! The Russians are coming!! And in the interest of National security the American Weapons production will not be comprimised at any cost, including that of the lives and health and economic declination of the citizens of the United States. At the construction of the worlds largest power plant under one roof........ I'm sick to death of mankind's unexcusable treatment of our host, EARTH. most sincerely DrVette

Actually the source of this post was a coworker's/ Kid's 7th grade school project where he got more than half of his class to vote in favor of banning this "substance."

Ahhh, cmonster- you have the same hatred of the EPA I do....

<rant>

The EPA (especially here in CA) is just downright evil, and stupid beyond belief. They're supposed to do good things for the enviorment aren't they?

Here in CA, (and more recently nationwide) the EPA is completely responsible for the gasoline additive MTBE which is an oxygenate that they claimed (insisted!) made gas burn cleaner. However, it turns out that the difference in using MTBE is neglegeble in the car's exhuast. However, when first indroduced, the MTBE was responsible for a number of auto fires because it softens (and sometimes eats through) certain rubbers. It also make the autos get slightly worse milage which negates any cleaner burning aspect of it.

It also works it's way through the seems in underground gas tanks and has been getting into our water supply. Ya know how a stuck nut can be loosened by WD-40 if you let it sit and seep into the threads,...MTBE has the same similar properties.

Oh yeah, also, the EPA required all gas stations to get new underground storage tanks as this MTBE **** was being introduced. That forced many Mom'n'Pop stations out of business. And the **** still leaks even out of the all the brand new tanks. I've heard that approx. %30-%40 of our water supply here in CA is now contaminated with the stuff. Just a few parts per million will give the water a turpitine smell and taste.

We have NO IDEA what this stuff does to the human body (but I bet it's not good). Another problem is it CAN'T be filtered out of the water...the MTBE molocule is smaller than the water molocule.

After a helluva ground swell of support and a long bitter batter with gov. we've finally decided to stop using this poison. But even though we know **** well the stuff is ultra toxic, and appears to be seeping into our water table, the freakin' EPA wants to give the oil companies up to 3+ years to phase out using this ****.

Un ****ing believable. The EPA is a laughable joke!, only problem is it's more sad than funny. A bunch of elitest "know it all" bastards that *think* they're doing the "right" thing, but the truth is they are just moronic son's of *****'s.

grrrr.

How many more must die???

Bihydroginatedmonoxide. It kills baby whales and threatens our children's future. And frozen shards hanging from your eaves during the winter will put your eye out!!! My God, I can see the ozone layer evaporating due to this silent, wet killer!

Don't let "Enviro-Al" Gore find out about this. He'll try to ban bihydroginatedmonoxide along with the internal combustion engine!

'Cause nobody knows what's better for us than Al and Uncle Sam...

Tony

P.S. Don't get me started on hydrogen peroxide. Whiter teeth, bah, humbug...

Does anyone here in Southern California remember the Smog Check campaign billboards that pictured a yellow car with a smoking exhaust and a caption that read "REPORT THIS CRIME" along with an 800 number?

Talk about "Big Brother," (turn in your neighbor) that reminded me of the old USSR - one half expected the grey car to show up at their door under cover of darkness to "take the smoking offender away."

MTBE is a concern in the lakes and rivers because of two-stroke engines currently produce much unburned fuel into the water and the MTBE is water soluable. Here's a few links to some sites re;=>> http://www.epa.gov/swerust1/mtbe/index.htm http://www.mtbecontamination.com/nyspills.html http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Environment_and_Nature/Pollution/Water/Methyl_Tertiary_Butyl_Ether__MTBE_/ DrVette

OutPaintent, saying that the EPA is supposed to protect the environment is like saying that the NRC is supposed to protect the US citizens from Nuclear Hazards.. It's much like the drivel back in Dec "Big Brother is watching" ,, all the above govt agencies are merely covers for the fact that Big Business and Govt are hand in hand conspiring to withhold as much prosperity and information from the populus as possible, and still maintain a appearance of operations in a manner that is expected by the masses. The views of Democrats and Republicans, are much the same, the reheortic used during campainging is seldom implemented. The president may be the most powerful man with the big stick, but he is nearly powerless in the face of big money.. IMO . DrVette

Oh gag! You guys actually "enjoy" drinking Jack Daniels? Ug, the smell alone can trigger my gag reflex.

I'm not much of a drinker...but when I do indulge in the "firewater", it's Stolichnaya exclusively. Yum.

Have you guys ever made Long Island Iced Tea's at home using only the best (often most expensive) of each of the alcohols? Fun! Talk about your rocket fuel!
