HElp me! Im a very experienced person at hardware but i cant figure this one out for the life of me, i bought a new ELsa-Erazor X with the nvidia geforce chipset. I installed it got rid of all my old drivers for my old vid card and installed new drivers and everything for the geforce. 2d and windows basic gui graphics work fine and the systems runs 4ever. but when i try to play a d3d game or an opengl game it works for like 10 seconds to a minute then freezes the system. i got older games and appz to run for a long time but like unreal tournament or quake 2 or quake 3. it will load run for a minute display whatever displays then freeze. it pisses me off HELP!

What is your system specs? Some motherboards don't supply enough power to the AGP for the GF256, and many problems (most solvable) exist for Athlon Irongate based motherboards.

Nothing looks uspect in your hardware list. The bp6 is a common board, and should easily handle the GF256. With a 300 watt power supply, you look ok. Look like it might just be a driver issue. Here's a link to the latest 3.77 Win9x and 3.78 Win2k drivers:

I haven't played with the Win2k drivers, so I'm not much help in that area. The scores sound about on target in Win9x. In Win9x you can only use one cpu, which I assume your stil running at 400. The GF256 is a powerful card, but it like power cpu's. A 400mhz cpu would be performance bottlenck to a GF256. Have you considered overclocking them to a high speed, such as 600mhz. Many 400's will make 552 (92*6), with a few making the 600 mark (100*6). Just a thought.

Yes i got the system overclocked to 500 right now 83x6 with agp on 2/3 mode. should i put it on 1/1 mode? i still think d3d should be going faster at those resolutions... interesting... and the ones in win2k arent working right with d3d for sum dam reason.. I love win2k i want it to work! but thanks for all yer help man! 1x agp mode is the way to go to make it work in my system i guess.

I got the dam 3.77 ref drivers(noticed though that the vid card with the win9x ref drivers 3.77 is having the vid card run in agp 1x mode maybe in my system 2x mode doesnt like to work) and they work great! it doesnt crash every 5 seconds now! opengl works great i get average 105 fps in quake 2 at 1024x768 on the time demos at 16 bit and in quake 3 get from 40 to 70 fps a sec at 1024x768 32 bit color. funny thing is in d3d games at 1024x768 16 bit i only get averafe of 45fps a sec. shouldnt it be faster? in win2k i installed the 3.78 ref drivers and d3d isnt working correctly so how do i reinstall dx7 in win2k? do thse drivers work for win2k?
