Just put new pioneer 10x drive in 114/104s is this drive anygood? MOVIES are not coming out too good have Power software decoder and poor 4mb trident card. Already ordered new video card g-400 Matrox MAX 32mb ! what's all this regional stuff about? Is this going to make DVD drive not work? Do I have to use decoder to get this drive to work right?

The regoins listed for the DVDs are the country that they originated in, region 1 is the US, other countries have their own, if you bought/rented a DVD from Japan it won't work on your DVD player unless you change the region using the selector, but you have a limited amount of times to do this, although I believe there is a software work around to avoid this anyway. Some DVD's are regionless meaning they'll work regardless...usually those are reserved for the over 18 crowd though http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I've got the same drive you have, its great, and that new video card your getting will run the DVD just fine just fine yourself a software player and you'll be set.

The dvd drive you have cannot be made multi region by software cracks. They are firmware cracks, ie permanent fixtures of you drive. If the crack happens not to work, neither will your drive. Simple as that. If you really want a mpeg2 decoder card though go for the Sigma Hollywood plus, excellent quality with tv out, bout 100 hundred english pound, probably be less in states neway

60-70 USD here in the states for the Realmagic Hollywood Plus. On a Celeron 550, I do notice less skipping (in fact none at all with the decoder card) than with software decoding. Also you can have it run in the background while doing other stuff without fear of skipping. Im not sure if it was worth the money..cuz its sure pricey, but is it undoubtely better.
