Hi,,
Recently,(December 30,) my Win 95 (version B) crashed, most likely a virus. After it wiped out my boot sector, I've had to reload Windows and all my drivers.

One problem I have, is that I did not make a backup of my video adapter card drivers. I knew it was a Cirrus Logic chipset but not sure of the model? I opened up the case to check, and found ...
Cirrus Logic
CL-GD5446BV-HC-A @ 2 megs of video ram.
I went to Windrivers.com and found the drivers under Cirrus Logic 5446W95.zip.
After loading these drivers,I found that the colour quality had decreased, I then downloaded a program called IDchip to identify the model I have (just to be sure) and it states that my video card only has 1 meg of memory??? Did I loose 1 meg of video memory,?? or have I loaded the wrong drivers?? Please respond with any comments, or suggestions....
Thanks..
(P.S. Yes, a new video card would help http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif )

Try emailing their support with the # you posted above. I really don't know if anyone will know that off-hand. If they did I'd be impressed. It has happened before so...

I haven't dealt with Cirrus Logic video cards since the old 486 era, but the tech suppurt is probably going to be useless. When emailed or called, their going to tell that they only make the chipset, not the actual video card. Then they will tell you to call the board's manufacturer. To me, it sounds like a driver problem.

Also, are you running the IDchip program in a native dos enviroment, not just a dos box under windows. Under windows, it can not correctly identify your chipset, and make a guess.

The worst part of this, Cirrus Logic no longer handles driver devlopment for their hardware. It's done by a company called ISDCorp ( www.isdcorp.com (http://www.isdcorp.com) ). They do have the latest OEM driver posted for free download, but the latest Win98 based drivers have a charge of $5.00 US applied to them since Cirrus Logic didn't write them.

If your chipset is mounted on the m/b, check your m/b's manu. website for a possible update. If it's on an unidentifiable expansion card, you need to look up the manu. by using its FCC idenitification code. Almost all hardware sold in the US has this code clearly printed on it somewhere. Check out this site for further instructions:

http://www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid/

Once you obtain the actual maker, search for their board specific drivers (at Windrivers or at their website), since these are usually optimized for that particular board.

Thanks to all that responded to the problems I had with my video adapter card, but I'm going to take scooter's advice and scrap the card and purchase a new one.
After all, it is the year 2000! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
