I have ViewSonic GA655 and Viper770 32Mb.
I installed reference drivers from nVidia Detonator 2.40. This driver is realy good and I would never change it but I have strange problems:
1. When I click on "Output Device" in video properties - monitor goes to standby mode and then turns off and I need to restart the system to turn it on again.
2. When resolusion is changing (for example in games)the monitor goes to standby mode and comes back to life in a couple of seconds or turns off and never comes back again. I tried many drivers for my videocard but never had this problem before. Here is what I tied to do:
Changing drivers for monitor
Clear installation of drivers (reinstall Win)
Application of HZtool
Removing string DEFAULT,RefreshRate,,-1 from nvagp.inf and clear install it again. Nothing helped. I realy like this driver it's so fast...
Please help me!!!

Veremount,
I am currently using the detonator 217 driver and don't have the problem that you describe. I did have some similiar problems prevously though. I really doubt that the problem stems from the Nvidia driver. You might try the 208 or the 217 Nvidia driver to see if it makes any difference, but I suspect it is another culpret. Try getting rid of everything you can from the systray and see if you can get it to happen then.
Best of luck,

Something else to consider.....

No idea what you monitor refresh rate is, but if the video card default setting is higher than your monitor can handle, it might cause you some of the grief you describe. Adjust the display adapter refresh rate down to a lower number, say 60-70Hrtz and see if that clears it up for you.

Hi, Veremount,

you are not alone... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I got something similiar, when I play Age of Kings, sometimes when I go from a screen to another one, say from the setting screen to the game screen or to another setting screen, the monitor will go blank. None hotkey works under this circumanstance, I have to restart my machine.

I am using reference driver 3.53 for NT4, (viper770 regular).

Under win98, it is even worse. I cannot start AOK at all! An error message says that the current driver/or adapter doesn't support DirectDraw. But i am the lastest driver for 98 from diamond, which has fixed some directdraw problem.

I bought this TNT2 yesterday, oh, it is not so bad in 2D as I expected, not so good in 3D as I thought.

When the price of Matrox G800 comes down, I am going to switch back to Matrox, I really like my old Matrox card..... yeah.. don't tell there is no G800 yet.. I know.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I have switched back to 2.08, and it worked fine for me.... I was just going to write a post to you about it...but... just two minutes ago, the **** thing happened again!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Diamond's driver sucks, and Reference is still no difference... what should we use?

I have had the EXACT same problems happen to me when I tried to use ANY other drivers beside the 2.08 ref. drivers. I just downloaded the new 3.65 drivers, but I am SO scared to install and try them out. The last I did this, I spent over an hour trying booting from safe mode to fix and re-install the 2.08 drivers. It wasn't as easy as I thought it was, trust me. It's find trying to find a needle in a stack of needles.

Whoa

Gradius, changing hardware's driver shouldn't be as scary as updating bios. I always do that under windows. If you have at least a known working driver on a floppy disk, or your harddrive, when you want to switch back, it shouldn't be that hard. just go through the properties/setting/advance whatever...

However, in a sense, changing driver, updating bios, applying software patch are not as easy as they appear. they mean to be a nightmare, don't they? But... we enjoy it... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Have you tried updating bios on video card?
I'm not familiar with TNT2s, but it cleared up some weird probs I was having w/Savage4.
