I'm planning on building a computer for the first time and you might be seeing me here for awhile or maybe the tech support board. My first question, in probably in a volume, is what is the difference from a BOXED processor and a non-boxed (retail???). I know that the boxed is more expensive. I was wondering are there any advantages to the boxed. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi
When you buy a boxed CPU, you get the fan, the user manual, all the needed screws, 3 year warranty (now, do you need that on a product that will be obsolete in 12 months ?), ...
If you buy it in its "OEM version" (ie non boxed), you'll have to buy an extra fan, ...
Most of the times, boxed product are more expensive. The good thing sbout it is that you know what you are buying, specially with CPU. You will never get a remarked boxed CPU (unless you buy it from a very dodgy company...)

Thanks for the info and sorry for the confusion. Like I said this is my first time to do this, it won't happen again.
