Personally, I have seen both sides of this controversy and the extreme opinions on both sides of this issue. I wouldn't be suprised if the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I guess only time will tell. (Just my opinion). Dave narayan 03-10-2000, 09:25 AM One way or the other, Aureate (and variants) were on my PC. Interesting link. socalgal 03-12-2000, 12:07 AM Thanks for that news, Target. After Aureate and crew entried themselves into my Registry software as a keyname, without my knowledge or consent almost a year ago, I'll never trust them. Target 03-12-2000, 12:21 AM Oh, I totally agree Socal...... just pointing out the story was all (playing devils advocate). jad1097 03-12-2000, 12:32 AM I also agree with socalgal. http://vil.nai.com/vil/ve98516.asp CujoRbd 03-12-2000, 12:44 AM yeah... me, too... i haven't yet had it in my registry (still crossing my fingers that i won't in the future), but some of my friends had it and it was a ****! i'm just sticking to that ol' trustworthy paranoia. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif CujoRbd jadinolf 03-13-2000, 10:13 PM After reading about Aureate I sniffed the hard drives on all four computers. Found 5 of their files on each of them and 8-9 registry entries. Installed a firewall (Zone Alarm). Will it keep them out? jadison 03-13-2000, 11:31 PM I have Aureate in my registry, and I have read several posts concerning it. Most of them are basically negative. How do I remove the Aureate files/keys safely w/o messin up my puter? ALso, how do I prevent them from getting back onto my puter: it's a desktop PC (not part of a network), should I download ZA? Thanks for any responses jadison Amarok 03-14-2000, 12:08 AM Well with all the info that has been going on about ZA check out this post here in sysopt. Then make your own decision. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/004820.html daveleau 03-14-2000, 05:59 AM Yeah Jadinoff, you might want to see that link about ZA first. Seems it could be that they are selling you out for the price of a firewall. Pretty ironic. Dave Amorpheous 03-14-2000, 07:00 AM From what I read, I thought the article on that link says that the Aureate "spy" is not true. QUOTE: Late this week the ubergeeks at anti-virus outfit Network Associates announced the results of their own exhaustive, and immensely more objective, research into the Aureate spy mystery. They conclude, just as we anticipated, that the Aureate spy trojan is a hoax. And you thought we were just being lazy.... ® [This message has been edited by Amorpheous (edited 03-14-2000).] jadinolf 03-14-2000, 10:34 AM Interesting reading. Thanks. Now what? SysOpt.com
