I just bought a Gateway pc I really love this machine .It came with a 19" monitor that is HUGE well about 6 days later it sizzled ( likr a steak on a hot grill) I called Gateway and they replaced it.A few months back we bought a new Compaq with a 15" monitor within 2 days it burned out.Ive had a 15" monitor that I bought at Walmart 3 years ago with no problems.I guess my question is how many bad monitors are really shipped? Has anyone else had this problem?
I'm thinking it might me an enviromental problem - Do you have a pair of large speakers sitting next to the monitor?
Do friends tell you that you really aught to dust more often?
Have you replaced the power strip the monitor gets plugged into?
Are you plugging the monitor into the back of the CPU power supply?
Do you have the monitor/video card set to a really high resolution and a really high refresh rate?
Does your house have aluminum wiring and do you often have to reset breakers at the fuse box?
Are you running a vacuum cleaner or rug shampooer on the same outlet as the monitor, or possibly the same house circuit? - motor's draw may be causing a power surge through the circuit. Same goes for heavy appliances such as washing machines and dish washers.
I myself have never blown a monitor, but I have noticed the above effecting either my systems or a friend's systems in such a way that I've changed my habits to prevent the above.
You might want to look at where the monitor's sit, what's happening in the environment when they blow, and how they're plugged in. Two monitors from two different vendors - and an old hearty monitor has made it - sounds like something you're doing - or you are defying statistical probability and you simply got two bad units - but I doubt it.
