Voodoo 3 speed problem..

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me. My voodoo3 2000 PCI is great, but its slow. I am getting only 36 fps at 1024x768 in quake2 with the the new 1.03.04 drivers and directx7 installed. Also, direct3d games run ok (if a tad slow) for a while (say 5 minutes) and then they lock up solid. (must power off and back on) I have a FIC PA-2007 mobo with A AMD K6/2-300 running at 66mhz bus, a 1mb cache, and 64mb FPM SDRAM running Win98. Any ideas?

you need to get a faster chip and PC-100 memery and run the bus at 100mhz or at least if your 300 is a 100 mhz fsb chip get some pc-100 memery for it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif you could also try clocking your board to 75 mhz should give you a little more performance.
as for the 3d games lock up had that problem a while back it was a driver problem try uninstalling the drivers and I mean really uninstalling them
use the uninstall wizard then do a serch for all 3dfx files, opengl and glide files delete them all then reboot and reinstall using only the newest drivers it should fix it.

Well, I set windows back to the standard pci vga graphics adapter, deleted 3dfx*.* glide*.* and opengl32.dll. I reinstalled the 1.03.04 drivers and directx7. Im going to test it on a direct3d game today.

I just finished testing, using the 3dfx version of Westwood's Recoil. It locked up solid after maybe 1 minute of play. I can't figure out whats wrong.

ok this is what I got and what I had I have a AMD K6-2-450 clocked to 525 with 64meg of memery when i had the problem it was with a voodoo banshee 16 meg I updated the drivers and after it would lock moto cross maddness and 2 othere 3d games at varining ponts in the games I could play opengl games all day same with glid
reinstalled the older drives no problem install the referance drivers from 3dfx no problem but that one set of drivers from gillimont froze my 3d games
after doing a complete removal of all the 3dfx drivers on my system that set of drivers started working right and I have had no problems sence

you might try going to www.glsetup.com (http://www.glsetup.com) and getting thee set of drivers and opengl from them for the card

128 pc100sdram,
directx 7,
latest vid card drivers,
RESULTS:1024*768=84 fps
800*600=108 fps
640*480=112 fps
