I have a Samsung Laser printer which has both USB and Parallel interfaces. I also have a scanner which has a parallel pass through connector. When I use this to hook up my printer, i get a "Printer not responding error". I think the bi-directional signal doesn't work through the scanner pass through connector.
Should I get a USB cable and use this instead? Can you get a bi-directional USB cable??
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

USB IS bi-directional http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

USB is bidirectional. I would recommend using USB, assuming your running an operating system that has good support for USB (Win95 OSR2.1 or greater or Win98). USB offers more bandwidth than parallel connections, and is much more effiecint in transfers. Just get a USB cable and try it. Make sure to have USB enabled in your computer's bios, and that all Win9x USB drivers are installed for your motherboard if it's not Intel based (VIA chipsets require a certian driver for max compatiblity).

Oh well, MntSnow already posted the most viable info while I was writing this.

Assuming the proper drivers are set up for each device, it shouldn't matter. I have an Alps printer running thru a USB-to-parallel adapter and a Plustek scanner on the printer port (with a Ditto 2G external). The "Copy" function of the scanner software doesn't work because it doesn't find the printer hooked directly to the scanner like it wants, but other than that everything gets along fine.
