This laptop I'm gettin' is manufactured in 1997. Its now year 2000. How many more years can I expect out of it?

Is 3 more years too much to ask?

These TFT LCD monitors don't come by cheap, so I'm just wonderin' how long I can get a kick out of 'em before they die on me.

Thanks in advance,
Plucky

I have a laptop that is going on 6 and it is just like the day I got it, screen is not a problem at all, seems like a lap tops worst enemy is sudden deceleration, and of course..liquids

Don't know why sudden deceleration would be a problem, or liquids for that matter.

BTW, I have laptops up to 15 years old with LCD displays that still work!

It all depends on how well you maintain you system.

My experience has been that LCD displays will out last just about everything else in the computer. So, I would expect that you will get several more years out of your display.

i assume that sudden decelartion = dropped, and liquids = spilt coffee in it.
Just thought id clear summin up

Your assumption is absolutely correct...it's not the fall, it's the sudden deceleration...kills the thing every time...

Why is it that a TFTmonitor costs 150% the cost of the laptop when replacing it? interesting... As quoted so elegantly in another well known post here...HMMMMMMMMMM

hhhmmmm

Say, I remember that post. What ever happened to it?

As for the costs of LCD displays...
Active matrix TFT displays are difficult to make with quality. Besides, the manufacturers would much rather you buy new than repair. And I suppose they are just a tad bit greedy.
