One month ago I set out on the arduous task of upgrading my faithful 15" monitor. I won't ramble suffice to say I have seen a few good and not so good monitors. Initially I brought home a Mitsubishi 1772IE .26DP. This monitor was rubbish. Next I tried a Mitsubishi 1795DT .25DP with Diamatron tube. Pretty good image quality but poor geometry setup and some dodgy vertical lines on the right hand side. I've now got a Sony CDP200-ES. Good monitor, reeks of quality but not brilliant. I think I have now become 'fussy'! Any ideas? I don't want to spend the earth but I don't want **** for the next 2-3 years either.

It's a crapshoot. I've gone through eight monitors in the past three years. Some of them were very highly rated, including a Viewsonic ps790 (rubbish), Iiyama 400 pro (very nice)and a Samsung 900sl (very nice but not perfect)
I am currently using a used dell 17" trinitron monitor (the model before this current series) which I bought for $125. This is the best display I have ever used. It is actually better than the brand new high-end dell trinitron I use at work. When I come home to use my home system, it is NOTICEABLY better.
The moral of my story? Follow reviews and recommendations, but don't be surprised if the whole experience is a crapshoot.

Hammo-I went through the same thing a few months ago.I researched the reviews, then went to the stores here in Atlanta. Some highly rated ones looked bad(even after tweaking the settings),and some cheap ones looked good.
I kinda' agree with Thomcat, make sure you can take it back without any restocking fees, etc.
I have a feeling;monitors(like CPU's)are not equal in quality, even though they come off the same production line......DawgTuff.
PS.If your wondering,I bought a ADI 6P.

Dawgtuff: I do believe you are right when it comes to monitors not being equally good even if they are from the same procuct line. I've seen that with my own eyes when trying to run two identical monitors with Win98 (and yes I did switch between cards and primary / secondary monitors so it was not a connection difference).
Also I think that it makes a big difference what video card you have. When using ATI cards I've seen several good screens turn to dim shadows of themselves.
