Hello,

There is a refurb 21" Dell monitor D1626HT (Sony Trinitron tube) at a local computer show in NJ that is listed for $579. It is backed up by a 3 years on part and one year labor. Beside the cosmetic has some scraches at the left hand side, it looks fine (I don't think it has been dropped or has serious damage from a drop anyway). If anyone has ever buy a monitor out of the show, I would like to hear from you. Your advice and recommendation is greatly appreciated.

Tuan

My friend just got a 19" for 330 (new not refurbed) from the last one (in Secaucus..yesterday Saterday Sept 25), Hes real happy with it. I would have got a refurbed one cuz they are cheaper, cuz im not as paranoid as he was, but people are how they are.

Thanks, I saw a 19" KDS monitor at Price Costco for about $330 too. But I am wondering if it is good enough for CAD/CAM applications.

You've got to watch yourself at the shows. Be sure it's a reputable vendor before spending that much $$ !! Not neccesarily monitors, but I've gotten great deals - and I've been burned. Just be careful, be sure to pay with credit card so that the CC co can back you up if needed. Never, ever pay the asking price!! The vendors expect to haggle, don't let them down. /forum/smile.gif

Get written warranty including who is responsible for freight if it fails.

Now, having said all that, I'll tell you that I personally would never buy a monitor from other than local retail store. With good return policy. It will look different at home, on your system, under your lighting than it does on display. Last time I was buying one for myself it took 4 trys to get one I'm happy with the quality! All were good brands with good specs, but differed in real useage.
BTW, I told the store manager up front that I'm particular about this & won't keep one until I'm satisfied. As I'm a long-time cust., he had no problem.

Thanks Ed for your valuable advise and recommendation. I am reluctant myself bying something that expensive (above $100) out of a show. I personally prefer the web, since I usually can find a better price.

I recently discover a local store which sale used computer from big corporate. The price is a bit less expensive than a show and I think I can return the merchandise if there is any problem with it. The best part is it is close to my work (5 minutes driving).
