I have an Intel 740 graphics chip set for my AGP graphics card. When I install my Drivers (either pv3_2w or PV4.0V) my computer freezes at the end of rebooting when it’s verifying the DMI pool data. I have no other option but to restart, but when I get to the desktop a get a message saying, "There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware." when I click ok the display properties pop up and my resolution at 640x480 with 16 colors. If I try and change my resolution or color it gives me the option to restart but when I do that everything starts all over to the verifying DMI pool data and of course freezing.

I have tried the latest drivers (PV4.0V), I've reinstalled windows, I've even formatted and installed SE (that’s where I am at now) but I still get the same problem. There are no IRQ conflicts but I even tried that (the weird thing was restarting shut down my system even before it got to verifying my DMI pool data).

I would write it all off as just a burnt out card but a couple of times when windows crashed my display adapter just worked after it restarted (don't ask me why I haven’t a clue) and the device manager recognizes my card. I haven’t yet upgraded my BIOS I am not sure if that’s needed but of course my card worked before with the original BIOS.

I have a CTX VL950 monitor, Diamond Monster 2 (voodoo 2), Yamaha DS-XG sound card (PCI), Aztech MDP3858SP-U Modem (PCI), P-II 400mhz, 128mb ram, 11.2 Big foot HD, Hitachi DVD-Rom GD-2500, Mitbishi LS-120 drive, and a External Backpack CD-RW 4x4x6.

Oh, and I think the last thing I did on my system was play Grim Fandango witch I don't think was using my Monster 2, just the i740 so that might mean something. ANYWAY that’s probably way more info then needed for the problem whether its fixable or not and thanks a MILLION for reading this far it certainly is not an easy problem but it’s a big challenge…….

Thanks,
David

P.S. Please no **** posts like "GET A NEW CARD" or something along those lines. I don't have the money for one EVEN just a ****ty little i740.

I too am having trouble with a simular card
i would first try getting new agp drivers for
your motherboard and possibly new bios for motherboard and card.
also chech your bios setting for to make sure
agp is the preferd graphics slot
eg: boot agp not pci
hope this helps

if the new drivers do not work try installing the old ones if it worked with them....that fixed the same problem on my old system...on my current system the only way i could fix it was to format and reinstall which is where you are now and should also fix your problem

I had the same problem when I installed a viper v770 agp card in NT4. I ran into an endless loop of installing the drivers, only to reboot and find the standard vga config. I was able to fix the problem when I found out that some of the newer grahpics chips require an IRQ assignment. I went into my bios and allocated an irq to my video card. Most new bio's have that option to allocate an irq or not allocate an irq to the video card. Anyway, as soon as I did that, I had no problem getting things working as advertised.

I had a problem with freezing after DMI verification so I pulled the card and reseated it and everything has been fine since.

Hmm... try the following:

1) Assign an IRQ to your video card on the BIOS and change the AGP Aperture Size (who knows maybe it is to big or too small).

2) Install the newest drivers or use old ones that worked. Rember to remove all traces of the card first and if you want to be really sure and don't want to get mixed up go and remove the monster3dII too.

3) If everything else fails well read the README that should came with the newest drivers and look for a solution /forum/smile.gif

I got around this issue with a CTX monitor (old 15") by removing all the display adapters and video accelerators via device manager,

then I 'manually' added "Chips and Technology" default Display Adapters drivers via "Add New Hardware"....rebooted. don't ask me why it worked, it just did.

good luck ;-)

p.s. though it worked, I ended up getting a new video card anyways 'cause I wanted something a little faster for games
