I am looking into buying a new 3D card very soon. My budget for this is upto $130, unfortunatly not enough for a TNT2 Ultra. However, I have found the TNT2 16MB and the Savage4 32MB within this price range. What would you recommend.
Thanks
The 16M TNT2 compares favorably to a TNT2 Ultra. I built a PC about a month ago, with a P3 450 and a TNT2 16M, TNTCLK took it to a cool 150/175 core/mem and it ran almost identically to my TNT2 Ultra at 175/200.
Lets see... TNT2 16M for $95.
TNT2 Ultra $230...
Hmmm, tough decision, huh?

yep..Savage 4 is really weak. My TNT recommend now is either the CL TNT2 16MB or the Diamond V770 16mb
Sure theres the M64, and the Vanta..but they..ermm...suck k?

Guess I'm the odd man out here ;-)
Running a Creative Labs Savage 4 at 125/125 on a PII 300 w/ 64Mb Ram. Compares favorably with my Voodoo 3 3000 on OC'd K6-2 500 w/ 128MB Ram. Voodoo has the horsepower edge at 166 MHz, but the Savage seems to give a little bit better color. OpenGL is smooth for both cards, can't really complain about either one. I've seen the TNT in action too- very impressive. Kinda hard to find a really BAD 3D card from the major companies- pretty much comes down to personal taste. Suggest anyone about to drop $100 plus on a vidcard try to see the card in action first. They all look & perform differently on different machines...

Read a bunch of reviews that said the Savage4 choked cause of fillrate. If you like running in hi-res, get another card. If you run in 640x480 or smaller, the Savage4 has a great bang-for-buck and you get free texture compression with that. However, don't count on competitive performance above 640x480, fps drop badly when the card gets pushed too close to its fillrate.
