i know framerate is important but when you have a game running smoothly and how you like it, you then wish the graphics were better. go for the G400max and be amazed, or wait till next year for the nv10

Go for the 770 Ultra. I have it and though it can be overclocked, I haven't bothered yet because the framerates are so awsome. I haven't yet had any graphics problems.
Regardless of what card you buy, most require an AGP fix for your Chipset.(Especially the ALi Alladin V!!) Fix is for the Voodoo3, TNT2, TNT2 Vanta and TNT2 Ultra.

I think the G400 max is the way to go right now. It was trashed early on in reviews, but that was apparently a driver issue. The environmental bump mapping support looks AWESOME and is unique to this card (for now). The frame rates are top notch, too.
You can pre-order one from buycomp.com for about $192, which is right in there for a TNT2 ultra card.
As for the future, I also thought the NV10 was slated for the holiday season, but things do change. Other than that, I'm going to start saving for a Glaze3D card (due next spring).

Listen to MadMatt....
Glaze all the way!
By a Viper770 OEM 16M for $95, it'll take you as good as the TNT2 Ultra fro the most part ( I know, I have both! ) and save up for the Glint Glaze 3D.
Can you say Q3 at 2048x1536 32 bit 200 FPS?

BBA,
Have you heard any info on pricing of the Glaze3D 1200? I've looked and looked, but to no avail. I just want a ballpark figure - Should I be saving $300 or $600, ya know?

Cool stuff!

If the card ever surfaces, I would bet it would be more like $1200-$1500. Like I said, if it surfaces. Don't hold your breath. Bitboys Oy has hyped a lot of stuff that has never surfaced.

Really? Good to know! They're billing the 1200 as consumer level, which implies $300 or less (at least to me). It does SEEM too good to be true....
I just want an affordable card with hardware geometry calculation, is that too much to ask?

The Glaze3D 1200 is supposed to be equally priced with cards avaible at it supposed release date. It shouldn't cost any more than a v4 or an nv10. The Glaze3D 4800 is due out around q2 of 2000. It uses 4 1200 chips together with a complete geometry setup engine (not just T&L). I hope Bitboy's does better with this new series than their last. The Pyramid3D new really took off, but it was mainly impart to 3dfx releasing the v2 around the same time.
