I've zeroed in on the PCI Banshee (Phoenix)version of this card as a reasonably priced video upgrade- about $65.
Does this card require my present video card, or does it replace it.
Any thoughts as to it's quality?
THANKS
MAX

Uh-oh- now I,m realy confussed! How about the 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI? It can be had for about $90. Same questions though!

I have the Maxi Gamer Phoenix AGP Version and it kicks ***. I would buy this over any Voodoo3. V3's are really faster but a lot om Compatibilty porblems. The Phoenix replaces your existing Graphics card

Banshee suck! Its the Voodoo2 of the poor.

I would go for a V3-2000 for about the same price and much better performance...(multi-texturing)(even a V2 would be a wiser choice)

The Banshee and Voodoo3 are 2d/3d cards and would replace your existing cards.

V2 is 3d only and is a add-on
Guillemot is a good choice...(made in Canada)

I have a Maxi Xentor TNT 2 Ultra and it absolutly flies. Its the next fastest TNT 2 to the Hercules but at a lot less cost. Running on a default 175/183 setting it clocks up to 180/205 with out any problems and i get 75fps at 1024 x 768 in the quake2 test with full everything on and i run kingpin in 32 bit colour at 1280 x 1024. Well worth a look. One thing ... if you can wait for it ... the NV10 its said to blow away any technology 3dfx has or even will have and rated with a polygon fillrate more than twice that of the playstation 2 released next year
could you handle a 64mb gfx card http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
i know i could

hoo-ya...30 bucks for a decent videocard? Id bite if i didnt have a TNT http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Banshees is very underrated, and will choke a bit on Heavy Texture games, but little else. OR for 87 bucks +S/H you can get a 16MB CL TNT2.. check out www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) for em...Thats AGP tho so get the V3 2000 or Phoenix if you dont have an AGP slot.

They already sold out of them. They sold out of them yesterday. They were $49 before rebate and Guillemot had a $20 rebate. I called them and they aren't ordering anymore. I did a search on pricewatch and found them for $61.95 at www.buy.com
Go to www.guillemot.com for the rebate if you decide to buy that card. That ticks me off to cause I was going to buy that card today. Oh well, 3dfx also has a rebate for retail box voodoo3 2000 and 3000 if you want to check out the prices of those. I think they run between 100 for 2000 and 135 for the 3000. I know www.ecost.com has the 3000 for $136.85 w/free shipping plus you get the $30 rebate from 3dfx.
