I'm from Nebraska and after reading this thought to myself..."is it really like this?"

You might be a Nebraskan if...

Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor on the highway

"Vacation" means driving through the Henry Doorly Zoo or going to the State Fair

Down south to you means Kansas

You know several people who have hit a deer

You have no problem spelling or pronouncing "Lincoln, Schuyler,
Kearney, or Beatrice"

You know the answer to the question, "Is this Heaven?"

Your school classes were cancelled because of cold

Your school classes were cancelled because of heat

You know what Huskers are

You've ridden the school bus for an hour each way

You've ever had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day

You think ethanol makes your truck "run a lot better."

You know what's knee-high by the Fourth of July

Stores don't have bags, they have sacks

You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one in it

no matter what time of the year

You can locate Nebraska on the United States map

Detassling was your first job

Your idea of a really great Burger is when the meat is twice as big as the bun and accompanied only by ketchup and a dill pickle slice

You learn your pickup will run without a muffler

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked

You consider being called a "Beef Queen " an honor

You carry jumper cables in your car

You drink "pop."

You know what the numbers I-80, 275 and 2 mean

You know what "cow tipping" & "Snipe hunting" is

CORNHUSKERS RULE

Spent 1/3 of my life in Hiawatha, KS (15 minutes south of "the border." http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif).... found that I could relate a little. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

These are the ones I bet you really COULD identify with. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one in it no matter what time of the year (Someone from NYC probably never has... because if it were out there, it'd be gone within 2 minutes or less http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked

You drink "pop." (I'll admit it - I do http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)

You know what "cow tipping" & "Snipe hunting" is (best one of all - never done either tho... wish I had on the first, and well, if you don't know what Snipe hunting is, come over some time and we'll go. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif)

Close enough. I just moved out here (SoCal) from Des Moines, Ia. Hehe... I-80! Nobody out here knows what an interstate is. Here they're all freeways and they call them "the 5" (I-5), "the 10", "the 15", etc... Took awhile to get used to. Back home if there was a traffic jam, it meant you had to slow down and go the speed limit, out here it means most of your time will be spent either stopped or at walking speed. With about 4-6 lanes in each direction no less! Pop, detassling, not gonna miss either of those words....

In Minnesota, where I'm from, pop is pop too. And that suits us just fine. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well I'm originally from No. CA, but now live in So. CA.

My only major transition was to make sure I avoided anything wearing red, as compared to, used to avoid wearing anything blue.

We call "pop", soda here in CA. We got a new employee at work who had moved from Chicago, and she drinks "pop". http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

It's a trip, ain't it!

Am I the only real current Nebraska resident on here. I live in Bellevue, just south of Omaha. Lived here my whole life.
The "traffic jams" are getting worse here, sometimes you have to slow down below the legal minimum.
For vacations I've been all over the U.S.except the Carolinas and north along the coast. The Zoo is one of the best in the country and worth a stop if your passin thru on "I-80".Living here I do it on weekends and I haven't been to the fair in years(seen one you've seen them all)
I know lots of people who've hit deer but I've allways managed to miss them.
"Schuyler" would have gotten me,its pronounced Skyler.
No its not heaven but everywhere has its good and bad points.
Yes they do cancell school for heat and cold. Some of the schools don't have AC and we can't have our kids outside waiting for busses when the wind chill is -30 or 40.
I've never had heat and AC on on the same day.
Those people with MTB in their water might wish they would have had a little ethanol instead.
I've never done detassling although many kids here still do it for a summer job.
I worked in plants grinding beef and I don't eat much hamburger.
Yes many people can still leave their doors unlocked and their cars running but that depends on where you live and seems to be changing for the worse.
I've never been cow tipping or snipe hunting.
Yes Big Red rules and I for one refuse to drink soda - pop forever.

Well I live in North Platte Ne. Small town!
I have detasseled (no one here even asked what that is). You forgot one favorite thing and that is outhouse moving. Hardly anyone here locks up there garage. Very little crime that amounts to anything. As far as prairie dog towns, they make really good target shooting.
