I read in one of our papers (trying to find the exact source) that a Japanese company is coming out with a new product that will hook up to PC's and SNES etc. that will let you smell the environment that you are playing with.
For example...if you are playing a game that has a lot of trees in it, it will let you smell the trees scent.
It is a product that will hook up to your PC or SNES etc. with different cartridges that incorporate a smell capsule for the game you are playing and will emit that odor as you play the game. It will operate with a small fan blowing these scents towards you. It is a small machine or add-on that runs along side of whatever setup you have.
Has anyone else heard of this?
Geeze...I hope no one comes out with a game for Farmers Corrals or something.
I'll try to post a link if I can and this is not a joke.

well for a lot of the games I have, they'd need to cover

cordite
aviation fuel
burned flesh

It's not a bad idea, but I seem to remember it was tried in US cinemas in the 1950s and it stank (literally)

Just avoid games with sewer levels...

That would be very interesting but I don't know how well it would fly. I guess it depends on how much they sell it for and how they market. It is a really cool idea, but if it sold for more than $30 or so, I probably would never own one. I can play without it... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey now, there's nothing wrong with that farm fresh smell. I'm kinda partial to it!

Think of all the limitiations this thing is going to have. One, you'll have to refill the sucker every once and awhile, the smells will be pretty limited (unless they have found some way to make multiples smells out of certain scents?) because think of all the smells available out there?? Imagine breaking the thing on the floor! Dont get me wrong, it sounds very cool, but its just so impractical right now.

I tried to get a link to it but it was only in the newspaper.
The article said that each cartridge would have approx. 150 different odors to it.
I'm glad that it won't be voice activated because as you know, a lot of people usually say..."Oh *****" when they goof up while playing a game http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

if it actually comes out it will be a very very very weird expierence to use it. u think it would just give another excuse for the people who blame games for killings in life. too lifelike maybe
weird

The smells of war would not be the greatest thing. Imagine a veteren catching a whiff of it and doing into a flashback...

I think it would be more along the lines of flowers, fruits, foods etc. as children would be playing with the games also.
We'll just have to wait and see.
If anyone has seen anything on the net about it, could you please post it.
Thanks.
