Okay, I got an old Gateway case (full tower, behemoth style) and I hope to try my stuff in it by tonight. First question: It has a 145watt ATX PSU. My mobo says it wants a 200, I'm not sure if that is just for AT or what. I'm running a 200watt AT, I think. Will a 145watt ATX do or will it fry my board and components?
Second: My mobo is an AT/ATX hybrid - it says that it offers ATX functionality with a form card, which I don't have. Can I still use it without one and does the AT/ATX jumper change the power connector used or enables/disables the form card? My mobo is a Chaintech CT-5AGM2.
Thanks so much all!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
hi alpha the 145w will work aslong as you dont run your monitor off of it aswell as 2/3 h/d's ect
1 drive + cd + mod + sound + Graphics
it should be ok but if your gonna use it for a while i would invest in a new p/s as there cheap n cheerful

Thanks! I don't run my monitor off it, so I'm okay. I read the manual and it doesn't give a minimum PSU rating.

i would recommend getting a 250w PS
if u plan to get any more drives
if that PS goes
then your hardrives and such might get lost as well

I changed the PSU for a 200watt AT, the 145 didn't work, I'll try again later.

Personally...I would change the Case to a
newer model and trash the old one...for
a measley fee (Less than $50.00) you can
get a nice new ATX case complete with 250W
power supply...You can also pick up the
Form Card for less than $10.00...On some
Motherboards it is needed for USB/Laser
and sometimes for built-in Sound or Video
on the Motherboard...Check out http://www.wintergreensys.com That's where
I buy most of my peices parts...They're
always good for price comparison shopping...

I can't get a decent case in Ireland without spending an arm and a leg and even then I get a lousy PSU. I have a 200watt AT in it and I'll try it after I drill out one of the standoffs. I got the case for helping in the computer store for an hour, so I ain't comlaining...
Thanks!
