I got an old Gateway fulltower case, 145watt ATX PSU. I set my board's jumpers to ATX and stuck it and a video card in and connected the power lead. The machine didn't turn on. Not even the light on the front. Also, there are three spaces with no cables in them in the ATX PSU connector. Is it an iffy connector that was designed to stop people upgrading. My stuff works grand in my old case.

a first thing to try is turn around the connector for the power button on the motherboard, so that it is the other way around. That happened when I built my new PC. I got scared cos it didn't turn on!
If that doesn't work, a good test to see if the PSU is dead or not is to try a fan on it(one that connects to wires coming from PSU). Then if the fan turns on then the PSU works. Anyhow, 145 watt PSU is not really powerfull enough for recent-ish processors, video cards, etc. I would go for 300 watt like me. :-)

Chances are you are going to need at least 230watt PSU, so why not just upgrade it any way.

I'm with WW on this...but, 250W would be even better. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif A 145 is a litte slim on the power even if it did work.

Turned out that it's a propieterie Gateway connector with different pinouts. I've replaced the PSU with a 200watt AT, didn't quite fit, got it in though. I'll give it a shot later.
Thanks all!!
