i just downloaded the new Quake 3 test game. When I put all the graphics options up to the top it will go - 800x600, 32bit Textures and 16bit Colour, I get slowdown on detailed parts of the game.

Will this problem go away and will it improve if I get a TNT 2 Ultra?

If so How much will it improve?

I have a
P2 300Mhz
192Mb RAM
Voodoo 2
etc

Not to put too great a damper on things, but don't forget that Quake3 is only a test so it doesn't matter what current benchmarks say, the final product will respond differently.

Save your money until later if all you need are good Q3 benchmarks.

3dfx was rushed in releasing a opengl incomplete ICD that performs horribly. Hopefully they get it done correctly (since all they are doing is converting opengl calls to glide calls as far as I know... that's probably why it has taken them so long) on my regular TNT2, I could turn everything up and still run above 30fps almost all the time, while my friends with V2's had to turn details down to get a playable game most of the time. Plus it looks a lot nicer on the TNT2. But as a Bill said, it is only a test, and may improve on the V2 as time goes on... but even then, the V2 still doesn't support 32-bit color and large textures, two things which help make Q3 test, or final, look much better.

And why don't you try overclocking that PII 300?
