video resolution/640/480 only????what happened

Problem with monitor or video card.
Hooked up a different monitor to my system to see how it would perform. When I tried to hook up my old monitor back , I can't seem to get it to run at 800/600 . It was at 800/600 before? I have un-installed the video drivers and re-installed them. Also have had the pc detect the old monitor (after removing the other one I was testing).
It will now only run at 640/480??? When it goes to 800/600 the screen becomes about 4 inches tall???

try changing the refresh rate between "optimal" and "adapter default" in the adapter tab of the advanced setting.

Tried that , no success. I was running at 800/600 untill I hooked up the new monitor. I have tried everything it seems, with no success? Re-installed every kind of driver I could find for video,monitor. Could I have damaged my video card?
