I was wondering what the Dot Pitch meant when I was looking around for buying a new monitor. I am working off an old Daewoo 14'' VGA Monitor, and with a STB Velocity 4400 on it's way and DVD, it about time to upgrade.

I'm looking for a 21'' monitor, but I need the picture to be sharp. What would be the differences in .22 or .25 or .33mm dot pitch, when comparing monitors? What does this spec mean?

Thanks

the smaller the dot pitch, the smaller the gap between each pixel..

I think it's the distance between the pixels. Lower is definitely better, meaning that .22mm is sharper than .33mm. Good luck.

If it is in your price range, get the Sony GDM F-500, nice! AS well as the NEC professional series. The Eizo Nanao are grrreat! Any one of these will meet or exceed your needs. With these monitors, the choice will not be that of dot pitch but of preference.

For Nanao http://www.eizo.com/index.htm

You have to be careful! A .26mm dot pitch is much better than a .24mm aperature size. There are differences in designs of the monitor crt that makes this a confusing topic.

Advertising marketeers use this confusion to increase profits on a lower quality product. The best way is to look at full screen text documents in the highest resolution mode the monitors will do and compare actual picture quality, not dot pitch numbers!

I've been burned on it before, It does pay off to be prudent to the salesman and force the comparison. Your eyes will be thankful!

Also, monitor comparison reviews can be found all over the web, so keep looking for info before you buy!

Thanks everyone. I'm an advid Ebay.com shopper, so it's hard to get actual shots from the monitor, but I will see what I can do!
