Hi!

Please explain what this fps mean? Can I run Quake II at 20 fps? What would it be like in 50 fps?
What is lowest frame rate for game to play it flawlessly?

Fps: frames per second
How many times per second the image changes. Just like in films, the more times it happens, the smoother the motion.
As to which framerate is acceptable depends on you. I believe that at 30fps it is smooth enough and you hardly notice any difference after it. Even 20fps is really fine in most situations. Other people are disturbed more by low fps than others. you certainly dont need 50 or 60 fps. It also makes for a nice benchmarking device for systems. The more fps it can pull, the stronger it is, but not necessarily makes the game better after a point

fps = frames per second

Running Q2 at 20fps is not advisble, it's jerky...
50fps would be great, but it tends to drop when the scene becoming more complex..

25 - 30 fps would be the satisfactory frame rate, but it's better to be higher, due to the scene complexity might drop the frame rate tremendously.

The fps in Quake II (and others) tells the _average_ frame rate you get. For example at one Anandīs benchmark a PII/400 + voodoo2 gets 60 fps running demo1.dm2, but only 35.4 fps in the famous "crusher" demo. The extra fps come in handy whenever there's some serious killing going on.
