I have just built a new computer with the following specs: MB GigaByte G5AX, CPU Cyrix MII 233 MX, 64 mg PC100 Ram, Conner 1.27 gig HD formated to FAT32, Running Win95 OSR25. I have followed the directions that came with the video card to the letter, installing USB support, DirectX5 and the drivers that came with it, but when I boot up it goes to the last stage of booting and then I get a black screen and nothing happens. I have my CMOS set to boot to AGP and if I remove the card from device manager(while in safe mode) and reboot, Windows detects it and reinstalls it. When I restart the same thing happens. I have a Sampo AlphaScan SV monitor. Can anyone help me. Thanks.

Get rid of the i740. I bought one, and now it is sat in a closet somewhere wasting away. Buy something decent like Matrox, TNT... anything but i740!!!

Stodge, Thanks for the response. I might end up taking it back where I bought it. I think I know what is wrong. It was assigned by windows to a shared IRQ. I'm not sure how to fix it but I am still researching it.

I don't know what chipset your MoBo is but if it's a VIA MVP3 you need to install the drivers from the website.

Thanks for the info. It turns out they sold me the Raptor II 740 Intel AGP card that will only works with a Penium II cpu. I took it back and got an ATI Expert98 PCI 8mb card and it is working fine and very fast. For three weeks I tried to make the wrong card work. Boy what a pain. I guess I should have double checked what they sold me but I was too busy thinking that I was doing something wrong. Live and learn. Thanks again.

You know..
one of my systems has the inter i740 card in it..
the Diamond Stealth II G460..(figure out that mismatch of numbers) and i had a similar thing happen to me after i installed directx6.1
now the only drivers that work in it are the intel drivers, diamonds lock up my system.
wierd huh.
I tried pulling everything else out but the video card and had the same result...
btw...the system is as follows
AMD K62-400 o/c to 450
DFI P5BV3+ ver B Motherboard
Diamond Stealth II G460 Video card( Intel I740)
Maxtor 8.4 Gig
128 MB PC100
Monster II
Lucent pci modem
Diamond Sonic Impact S90

NiVik, Working on this computer has been very frustrating. I downloaded the IE 4.01 lastest upgrade and it installed automatically. When I rebooted, my whole system was messed up. I got every error message in the book from Invalid Dynamic Link to fatal Exceptions. I had to disable my internal cache to rerun setup and them I starting getting this error message about a device file in System.ini being damaged and to run setup again. I have copied most of the files from Microsoft on trouble shooting. I guess the next thing I will try is to creat a new system.ini to get rid of the third party drivers in hope that the computer will boot into the normal mode so that I can reinstall my specific hardware drivers. Have you downloaded the lastest Diamond drivers for your video card? I think I read something about directx6.1 not working with certain video cards. Good luck! I know that I need it with my problems.
