this is so wise, I try to follow everything to the tee:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIFE
1. Give people more than they expect. Do so cheerfully.
2. Memorize your favourite poem.
3. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have, or sleep all you
want.
4. When you say, "I love you," mean it.
5. When you say, "I'm sorry," look the person in the eye.
6. Be engaged to be married for at least six months.
7. Believe in love at first sight.
8. Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't.
9. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only
way to live life completely.
10. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.
11. Don't judge people by their relatives.
12. Talk slowly. Think quickly.
13. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?"
14. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve
great risk.
15. Call your mom.
16. Say, "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.
17. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
18. Follow the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others;
Responsibility for all your actions.
19. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
20. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to
correct it.
21. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your
voice.
22. Marry a man / woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their
conversational skills will be as important as any other.
23. Spend some time alone.
24. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
25. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
26. Read more books and watch less TV.
27. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll only get to enjoy it a second time.
28. Trust in God, but lock your car.
29. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life. Do all you can to create a tranquil, harmonious home.
30. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current
situation. Don't bring up the past.
31. Read between the lines.
32. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
33. Be gentle with the earth.
34. Pray. There's immeasurable power in it.
35. Never interrupt when you are being flattered.
36. Mind your own business.
37. Don't trust a man / woman who doesn't close his / her eyes when you kiss.
38. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
39. If you make a lot of money, put it to use helping others while you are living. That is wealth's greatest satisfaction.
40. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful
stroke of luck.
41. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
42. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for
each other exceeds your need for each other.
43. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
44. Remember that your character is your destiny.
45. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

Woah, pretty interesting stuff.
Did you happen to get that off a book or somethin'?
One question - why is it that people say *bless you* when they hear someone sneeze?
Is it a religion thing or a common thing that people say to each other. I know I don't.
Always wondered why, but never bothered with the question.

16. Say, "bless you" when you hear someone sneeze.
Have you thought this through? Bless? Do you want someone to be "blessed" by some magical gnome? And where does the incorporation of such nonsense lead?
Here's a nice poem for you.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
“You’ll burn to ash
in Hades’ fires!” they screamed out,
clubs in hand.
He stared them down, then strode
away.
You think I give a ****?
A lone voice called out from the crowd,
Baffled by his stand:
“How could you be an atheist?”
I think, therefore I am.

Well dear Duck: you got me on that one.
I think is because your hearth stops when you sneeze for a small fraction of time, and if you die at that specific moment, at least you would have been blessed!
WAIT!
I was just inform by someone here in the LAb
that is because the use to think that your soul, was was expoulsated out of your body when you sneeze...(trust me it sounds weird!)

#21...
How are you supposed to smile when you pick up the phone and you see on the call-display that it's the kids wanting to BORROW money.
The only time I smile while on the phone (after repeating myself to someone by saying I'm not interested over and over) is after I slam it down in their ear.
Heh,Heh.

Thanks, zzreyes!
Some good stuff in there... it makes me feel good that I already do a lot of the things on the list. Although #40 doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me: I've seen a lot of reckless cooking and a lot of reckless loving (not done by me) and the results of both seem to be indigestion.
Hey Plucky, I read somewhere that the sneeze blessing dates from the times of the Black Plague in Europe, when sneezing was taken as a sign that you might be infected and thus in serious need of a blessing. Also the children's song
"Ring around the rosies
A pocket full of posies
Ashes! Ashes!
They all fall down!"
dates from that time, when people carried garlands of flowers and danced wild dances to ward off the Plague.
"Ashes! Ashes!" is regarded as a corruption of "Achoo! Achoo!" (sneezing), while "They all fall down!" refers to everyone dropping dead. Pretty gruesome, eh?

The phrase 'bless you' comes from the middle age belief that a persons soul left their body when they sneezed. Saying bless you brought the soul back to the body. Thats the basic jist, someone might expound more.

Some of those are absolutely pathetic, sorry. If I had followed them, I wouldn't be happily married now--case in point: Rule #6: Be engaged to be married for at least 6 months.
I proposed within one month, and we've been together ever since....
Another that I find incorrect is: #12: Talk Slowly. Think Quickly.
Sorry, I do both quickly...
There are a bunch of others, but it would take too long to single them out. Tell you what, here's my alternate list:
1. Expect more from yourself than you do from others, but don't expect others to meet your level of expectations.
2. Aim for perfection, but remember you're only human and won't ever meet it. It's the striving that betters us.
3. Strive to better yourself.
4. When you say, "I love you," mean it.
5. Don't say, "I'm sorry", unless you mean it, and if you mean it, don't be afraid to say it. It is always said looking the person in the eye.
6. Live with your Signifcant Other for at least 3 months before you get married. Thus, if you're lifestyles are incompatible, you'll know before you're married.
7. Believe in love at first sight, but realize that it takes communication, trust, honesty, and equality to make love work.
8. Never laugh at anyone. They are wounded by this just as you would be. Instead, laugh with them.
9. Don't be afraid to laugh at yourself. Taking yourself too seriously grows the ego too much.
10. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.
11. In disagreements, be rational. Step beyond the anger and listen to what each other has to say openly and honestly. Expect that you may not see eye to eye, but you can meet in the middle. Be willing to Meet in the middle.
12. Don't judge people. Accept that they are different, and that if these differences conflict with your beliefs, they have as much a right to be as you do...
13. Treasure your friendships.
14. Embrace chaos and order equally. Sometimes you have to "fly by the seat of your pants", and sometimes you need to, "plan it to the letter". Know when to do each.
15. Have concern for others.
16. Do not steal. Even the tiniest of things carries a meaning to a person.
17. Do the least amount of harm to all things that you can.
18. Realize you will both lose and win in life. Learn from them both equally.
19. Respect every single thing. It all has it's place in the universe.
20. Find your place in the universe.
21. When you realize you've made a mistake, own up to it and take immediate steps to correct it.
22. Learn to be unafraid of being alone and that it is a necessary part of life. It builds character and makes all the friendships and loves through life so like icing's on the cake.
23. Marry a man / woman you enjoy. Wholly and completely.
24. You came into this world an individual, you will leave it an individual. Discover who you are and don't be swayed by the crowd if it is not who you are.
25. Realize that all things change, and so too must you. Your values, your ideals, your goals, all will change, and the world, both within and without, will be your guide.
26. Remember that silence can be more powerful than a dozen words. Don't be afraid of it.
27. Read. Not only is it entertaining, but you will discover things you never knew about yourself and the world about you.
28. Live your life with compassion, honesty, laughter, and zeal.
29. Live life with no regrets.
30. Don't be afraid to talk to your children. Treat them fairly, and honestly, and they will open to you. Communication is the cornerstone of a home.
31. Don't go to bed angry. Deal with your problems honestly and at the time they are problems.
32. Read between the lines.
33. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
34. Be gentle with the earth.
35. Understand that all things are interconnected, and all things make an impact, no matter how small, on the world.
36. Accept compliments gracefully, but don't let it grow your ego too much. Remember there are people in the world who are both better/more and worse/less in all things that you do/are.
37. Enjoy your mate. Physically, spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally. If you don't, you're with the wrong person.
38. Don't be afraid to open your eyes when you kiss. Don't be afraid of letting your eyes show what you feel. And above all, express what you feel to those you love.
39. Do something you've never done at least once a month. New experiences bring growth.
40. Help others. Even if it's just opening a door, or picking up a dropped piece of mail for someone.
41. Remember that getting what you want isn't always what's best for you. Try to remember the difference between what you want, and what is good for you. Avoid the former, seek the latter.
42. There is an exception to every rule in life, including the rules on this list. Believe it when an exception arrives, for they are far more frequent than you would expect.
43. There are many types of love, but the best is the kind that endures.
44. Judge your success by whether you can look at yourself in the mirror at the end of every day.
45. Character is the fabric that defines us. Temper it with humility and honesty, and you'll always turn out all right.
46. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.
47. Don't be afraid to be taught new things or learn new things. Whether that's in the bedroom, in work, or any other arena in life...

And some of the reasons you are happily married are:
[list=1]
Two times a week you go to a nice restaurant. She goes on Tuesdays and you go on Fridays.
You sleep in separate beds. Hers is in Florida, yours is in Va.
You take your wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.
You always hold hands. If you let go she shops.
Your wife has everything, electric blender, toaster, food processor, etc. and one day she said their were too many gadgets and no place to sit. So you bought her an electric chair.

There are tons of Instructions For Life, but only one we must all follow and that is the Bible http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

there is so many "TIPS" that one can listen to in order to achieve happiness in life.
There has neve existed a general "Happiness rule"
or there will never exist...
The only nobel truth I find and it was said by Buddah
"Life is Suffering, and the cause of suffering is Desire"
I live by this, and never had a problem.
Ps: just tips, of course they don't apply to the everyday joeblow!
life is to complicated for that
