Thanks John Ed_S 03-06-2000, 07:04 PM Well, floppies means getting a Sony Mavica, they're nice but expensive! Flash cards come in two types, either Compact Flash or Smart Media, don't know which is "better". Here's a couple of info sources I've found on this: http://www.pcphotoreview.com/ http://www.imaging-resource.com/ The first includes a BBS and a classified ad section, while the second has a neat comparison guide, lets you download or view photos of the same subject as taken by different cameras. Can be quite a difference in image quality! It can take 2.1 mega pixles (not the most but I don't print big **** photos) It takes 640x480, 1024x748, and 1600x1200 pics. It has 5x optical zoom...and another 5x of digital. It can also digitaly zoom in on pictures already taken by 5x on the camera. One feature I really like is that it can take mpeg movies. 15 seconds of 320x240, and 60 seconds of 160x112. It comes with a 4mb sony memory stick. I bought a 32mb one for $90us. To me the memory style didn't matter...because with USB, who cares? It has a little tv a/v out too....you can play side shows of your pics and movie clips on any tv. It's very easy to learn how to use all the options by just looking through the easy to use menus. This things flash is insane. I can take good pictures in pitch black rooms. The lens (Carl Zeiss) can swivel independently of the the body of the camera...makeing it easy to take pictures from your waist or over crowds. Some might not like the fact that it doesn't have a veiw finder as well as the LCD...I havn't missed it. At around $1000us it's pricy, but it's sweet! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif daveleau 03-06-2000, 09:41 PM Well when looking at the zoom, try to get the highest optical zoom and lower digital zoom. The digital zoom is not as clear. Also make sure you get a power adapter or some means to DL your pix so you don't chew up expensive battery life. They really suck batteries. As for Sony, you are paying alot for the floppy technology. You can save very few pix to a floppy and the resolution is very low for the price you pay on the Sonys. The Kodak 280 is a nice cam that can be found for 500 or so ont he web. Remember that Staples does price matching with the web too so you can save on that and have a place to return your camera if you don't like it. Good luck Dave Phoneman 03-07-2000, 08:28 PM I've been looking for a digital camera to and the places I've looked for information is on Yahoo, Hotbot & Excite. Go to the website and in the search box type digital cameras. You'll find lots of sites with cameras for sale and articles that will help in the decision making process. You can stop by a Best Buy store if you have one near you and go to their digital camera dept. The stores near me has a PC and printer set up so they will take a picture with a display camera and print it out on the spot. If your interrested in the Sony camera go with at least a FD-83 or higher. The FD-73 camera is only a 640x480. If you print it to any size it will look splochy. To get good pictures go with at least a 1 megapixel camera. I would suggest a 8 meg memory card to. A megapixel camera takes more memory to store photos. If your looking for a nice cheep camera I mean best bang for the buck I'd suggest maybe a Kodac 215 Millennium 2000 for about $300. I've found the best prices on the internet not in stores. www.tristatecamera.com (http://www.tristatecamera.com) is a good starting place. Good luck. Dave_H 03-07-2000, 08:40 PM I was lucky to get a Sony Mavica from a friend for a really good price and I love it.
