for some reason ever since i got my computer
(a Compaq with 233mghtz AMD K6) the monitor won't show red hues it shows red as almost black what can i do? i have checked the cables and the resolution settings what am i missing? any suggestion would be appreciated by the way, the video card is an S3 thanks

The pins on the monitor cable designate different colors. (I had this problem once)
Make sure that none of the pins are bent or pushed in.
If one of the pins is not making the correct connection, there will be a loss of that particular color.

i totally agree.... and if that doent even work take the monitor in to a reapir shop or do this yourself.... open it tup and take a look at all of the wiring make sure no wiring has come undone..... and make sure the cable on the monitor going to the vga port on your video board is not bent or "cracked" in any area....

I've also had the same situation with a cheap 2-meg S3 PCI video card. It turned out the the video card itself was bad. Try another cheapo video card to see if that's the problem...
