WHen I am playing some games, my computer will just lock up. This only happens when I switch to hardware acceleration. It has done this in RECOIL, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, and a couple others. I will get about 5 seconds into the game and my computer will just freeze. I have all the latest drivers for the card. I have a 300a (not overclocked) with 32MB SDRAM, and a Western Digital 2.5GB hard drive, with a 15" gateway monitor. I tried all I know. I am using Powerstrip, but I am having problems with or without it loaded.

Also, and maybe this shows the card is going bad, when I play some of the same games, I will get lines. The best I can describe it is to say that on the edges of the objects, you can see lines that are different colors than what it is supposed to be. Most prominant in Thief: Dark Project, but I am now getting it in the other games as well. This only happens in games. All my apps and stuff run fine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might be able to fix it? Is it a conflict in the software? I am running DirectX 6.0 and all the latest sound drivers.

thanks in advance for any help offered.

OH!! Just to add to this, for cooling, I have only the CPU fan, Power Supply fan, and an additional CPU fan I got jerry-rigged in the case about 6 inches from the video card blowing directly on it. AND, don't know if this makes a difference or not, but the video card is sitting in the PCI slot next to my sound card. Maybe they are too close together? I could try moving it to another slot to get some free space around it for air circulation or would this help? Also, I have the case cover ON the case. thanks again

I have been having strange problems with my computer for several months now, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I had all sorts of strange problems, such as an inability to shut down properly, or disk I/O errors. However, I noticed the only consistent problem I had was garbled graphics after a couple hours of use. I own a Velocity 128. I had suspected this card had gone bad, but I was too lazy to pull the card and try another card. Just tonight I got real fed up and pulled the card. Now my computer has had no strange lockups or any errors at all. You should try pulling the card; it can't hurt.

P.S. My system has never been overclocked, and I have never used any utilities (Powerstrip, etc...) to overclock the card.
